Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Kamaluddin Md Said today agreed to visit the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Jalan Cochrane where former Customs officer Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamed was found dead three years ago.

 

Justice Kamaluddin fixed the visit for 11am tomorrow.

 

Ahmad Sarbaini was found dead after he had gone to the Kuala Lumpur MACC headquarters to help its investigations into the Customs Department, in a case similar to the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

 

The late Customs officer’s wife Maziah Manap ( left ), 53, today gave teary testimony before Justice Kamaluddin in her suit against the MACC, before a packed court room consisting of many from her family.

 

Senior federal counsel Zureen Elina Mat Dom had applied that the court visit the site to get a better understanding of the case, and Maziah's lead counsel Razlan Hadri Zulkifli supported the application.

 

Earlier, parties failed to resolve in settling the matter out of court, resulting in Maziah taking the stand today.

 

Ahmad Sarbaini was initially held by the MACC overnight between April 1 and 2, 2011, at the new MACC office following allegations that he was on the take, a claim which he and his family had strongly denied.

 

He went to there on April 6, 2011 to correct a statement he had given to the graft busting commission but was found dead later that day.

 

Maziah, along with her eldest son Shahril, 30, had filed the RM8 million suit in April this year and named seven officers including the MACC chief commissioner, the MACC, and government as defendants.

A coroner's inquest was held following Ahmad Sarbaini's death and in Sept 2011, it reached the verdict death by misadventure .
