The DAP central executive committee (CEC) has passed a resolution urging PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to attend the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meetings.

This is to ensure that the coalition remains viable and can regain the confidence of voters, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said in a statement today.

“In view that Abdul Hadi’s presence at the Pakatan leadership council meetings is necessary, as he is the sole authority in PAS who can make decisions, the DAP will wait until he is available to attend such meetings,” Lim said.

Last week, Lim ( left ) had publicly urged Hadi to attend the meetings. With his absence and his lieutenants unable to make decisions on PAS’ behalf, Lim had said that Pakatan has been unable to reach the consensus needed to pass resolutions.

This came after Abdul Hadi had been absent from the meetings for months after a falling out with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, and had repeatedly overruled PAS central committee decisions.

On Monday, PAS party organ Harakah Daily also reported that Abdul Hadi has been ailing.

It is understood that DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke and PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali had met yesterday to discuss the relations between their two parties.

On another issue, Lim said the CEC has also resolved to table a proposal to set a quota for women elected to CEC positions.

The proposal to amend the party constitution will be tabled during its national conference on Dec 14, and urges a 30 percent quota to be reserved for women.

“This is a concerted effort by DAP to encourage more women to join the DAP and demonstrates our commitment to increase the pool of women leaders in Malaysia, especially the participation of young female leaders,” Lim said.
