Selangor MCA today urged Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to give credit to the role of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in the return of the copies of the Bible to the Christian community.

Selangor MCA secretary Ng Chok Sin said Azmin should not "hijack" the good work of the sultan, who reportedly had actively worked behind the scenes even before Azmin was sworn in as MB.

“As MB, Azmin should have been honest and forthright from the start, by practising transparency and being answerable to the public instead of misleading the public into thinking it was he who made the difficult decision,” Ng ( left ) said in a statement today.

Netizens have showered praises on Azmin after the copies of the Bible were returned last Friday.

Copies of the Bible in the Malay and Iban languages, which were seized from Bible Society Malaysia (BSM) by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) in January, were handed over to the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) on behalf of BSM.

Ng claimed palace sources allegedly revealed Azmin did not play any role in getting the Bible copies returned.

Retract praises from Azmin

Meanwhile, Ng, who is also MCA central committee member, also urged Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua to retract his praises for Azmin.

Pua had said the new MB managed to do in less than 60 days what his predecessor Abdul Khalid Ibrahim could not in nine months.

However, Ng said the DAP should have been assertive on Khalid to bring about an earlier release of the seized holy books.

“Lim Kit Siang should put DAP’s house in order first and not pretend and try to teach MCA ministers what to do, as MCA already knows when and how to play our roles effectively, as evidenced in our track record.

“DAP did nothing other than beg PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to attend Pakatan Rakyat’s supreme council meetings,” added Ng, who is also MCA religious harmony bureau deputy chairperson.
