Index shows impact of terror growing in M'sia

Malaysia dived down the annual index by the Institute of Economics and Peace, Malaysia and was placed 48 among 162 countries.
The countries were ranked according to impact from terrorism.
Malaysia was ranked 91 in 2013 and 90 in 2012, with the top-ranked country, Iraq, being the most impacted by terrorism.
While the report released today does not explain the dramatic change in rankings, it notes that Malaysia’s score went up by 1.13 points to 3.04 points this year.
This takes Malaysia out of the group of nations with the lowest impact of terrorism, to join countries more impacted.
Other countries in the same category as Malaysia are Ireland, Ukraine, Georgia and Tunisia.
The Philippines topped the index among Southeast Asia nations, followed by Indonesia, 31, and Myanmar at 35. Malaysia comes in fourth.
In recent months, a number of Malaysians have been reported joining international terror groups like the Islamic State (IS).
Police in August was reported to have said it foiled plans by IS militants to bomb a brewery and nightlife area in the Klang Valley.
