The group fighting against the government's plans to build an incinerator in Taman Beringin, Kepong, has threatened to hold a demonstration if the Housing, Local Government and Urban Well-Being Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan continues "ignoring" its voice.

 

In a statement, the steering committee for Kuala Lumpur Tak Nak Insinerator (KTI), said that numerous letters and requests for a dialogue with the minister had not resulted in a single reply.

 

"The minister had said in the past that some quarters are scaring the public by presenting wrong facts about the incinerator. To be fair, he should show tolerance by holding a public forum so the people can decide which side is presenting the facts," steering committee member Lai Yak Guan said.

 

Lai also said that KTI is considering teaming up with the national anti-incinerator coalition (GAIK) to jointly organise the demonstration.

 

The group said that they are now lobbying for international support ahead of the planned protest.

 

The group had already met United Nationas Special Rapporteur for Health, Dainius Puras, and some members of the committee are travelling to Philippines to meet with the Global Anti-Incinerator Alliance (GAIA).
