PARLIAMENT Two DAP MPs have moved for an emergency motion in Parliament to discuss Al Jazeera 's documentary expose about the state of refugees in Malaysia.

Arguing that the government had not responded to the documentary 'Malaysia's Unwanted', since it was aired four days ago, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng ( left ) and Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming urged speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia to allow the motion.

Lim submitted his motion to Pandikar this morning under standing order 18 (1).

"The issue of this documentary, if not handled appropriately, will affect Malaysia's ability to become chair for Asean nations," the motion read.

The programme saw a Al-Jazeera journalist go undercover to record the kind of treatment meted out to refugees by immigration detention centres in Malaysia.

Lim and Ong said that the treatment of children in the centres clearly violated human rights conventions on children that Malaysia is already a signatory to.
