Muslim politicians who don't defend Islam criticised
Puteri Umno also criticised Muslim politicians who do not defend their religion because of political agendas and personal interests.
Speaking at the wing’s annual assembly today, its chief Ermieyati Samsudin said these leaders were fearful that support would erode if they were too vocal in championing Islam.
According to Umno Online , she added that these politicians remain silent despite knowing that religious extremists are constantly stoking tension.
"The liberalisation of religion which endorses the likes of lesbian, gay, bisexuality and transgender clearly violates the Muslim faith.
"And the group with regard to religious pluralism, who are of the opinion that all faiths are the same, is growing.
"Are we only capable in watching this happen and allow this dangerous understanding to destroy Muslims?” she asked.
In view of this, Mas said Puteri Umno supported all decisions and actions by the government and Islamic institutions to preserve the position and sanctity of the faith.
She also expressed appreciation for the government’s decision to challenge the Court of Appeal’s ruling that a syariah enactment in Negeri Sembilan which barred cross dressing as being against the federal constitution.
