A PKR leader has challenged the foreign minister to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commmission for the RM100 million offer to jump ship with a group of others.

 

Tian Chua, who is also a PKR vice-president, said Anifah Aman's lack of action following the alleged offer raises questions about the authenticity of his claim.

 

“I strongly urge and challenge Anifah to do the right thing by going ahead and lodging a MACC report over the incident.

 

“Otherwise, his credibility can be questioned and this whole thing is just a story made up to defame (opposition leader) Anwar (Ibrahim),” Chua ( left ) said in a statement.

 

Yesterday, Anifah told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that he was offered RM100 million by a corporate figure who is close to Anwar to defect and bring 10 Sabah MPs with him.

 

Tian Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, also questioned why Anifah did not remember the particulars of such an offer.

 

“How often are such offers made that details cannot be remembered,” Tian Chua asked.

 

The minister has admitted in Court that he could not remember the date of the meeting.

 

Date of 'defection' offer

In Anifah’s testimony yesterday, he said he also could not remember when the first offer was allegedly made by Anwar, when he received a call at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal, putting it as sometime in May or June 2008.

 

Anifah also admitted that the meeting at Hilton KL Sentral took place after the call he received at the LCCT.

 

Anifah also admitted yesterday that this was the first time he relayed the alleged offer made and said he decided not to lodge a report as there were no other monetary offers made.

 

Anwar has filed a RM100 million suit against Anifah following what the minister said at a press conference in Washington DC with then Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

 

At the press conference, Anifah claimed Anwar tried to buy over several MPs in 2008 and he was offered the deputy prime minister post.

 

Anifah, who had declined to be retained as a deputy minister in former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's cabinet, named the person who offered the monetary reward as corporate figure Ishak Ismail, who was the KFC chairperson.
