No mood for introspection among Umno delegates
YOURSAY ‘Surely someone should ask what has Umno done over the past 57 years.’
Pakatan 'ignored 1MDB's 1,000 imams'
Cheong Sai Fah:
In the bid to support controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), an Umno leader cited the government-owned company is sending 1,000 imams for the haj. Can you imagine it?
Another delegate is calling for an economic jihad to uplift the Malays. Surely, someone somewhere should wonder what Umno has done over the past 57 years.
China was much worse off than Malaysia in 1949. But in 65 years, it had become the world's second biggest economy. Some introspection by the Umno delegates seems not out of place.
P Dev Anand Pillai: The New Economic Policy (NEP) was the first economic jihad and it has been a very long jihad indeed.
Out of this long battle for economic equality, we see more disparity between the haves and the have nots within the Malay community instead.
Some have become 'super rich' whilst the peasantry are still lagging behind. What happened? Weren't the policies created by the Malays themselves? Hasn't it worked?
Or shall we take the easy way out and blame the non-Malays instead for working too hard with whatever little that is left?
Oh Ya?: A whole gang of shameless robbers, to the extent of shaming their own religion to justify their wrongs.
The next thing they will do is to accuse those who criticise and expose their scandals as attacks on the 3R (race, religion and royalty). And greedy to the core.
After more than three decades of raping the state coffers in the name of NEP which they are the only benefactors, now they are demanding the vault doors be opened wide for them to take as if it is their money.
MinahBulat: Johor Umno delegate Adham Baba, I agree with what you said. There must be an economic jihad for the Malays and bumiputera because they are the majority.
But this economic jihad must be for non-Umno members only. Look at the Umno members and delegates - all staying in five-star hotels.
Even in Selangor, Umno assemblymen given RM200,000 as part of the Mesra Rakyat programme ‘pun tak nak terimah. Sikit konon nya!’
Teruna Hot: The prime minister said the 1MDB programme would be an annual affair where imams, village chiefs and other eligible people would be considered for the Haj trip. This can be as a reward and appreciation of their role and contribution to the society.
We as Malaysians should support this programme because there are still many people out there who cannot afford to go to the Holy Land.
Adam Ningau: I thought usually the minorities are neglected. Only in Malaysia, attention is given to the "majority".
Is Umno thick-skinned enough to continue the failed policy to assist the "majority"? Does the Malays have pride in their capabilities?
For the sake of the nation and the "majority", Umno should let the other parties which are more visionary and capable to lead the country. Umno cannot continue to fail.
Indeed, Malaysia can't afford to do this for another 55 years.
Katak Puru: 1MDB has amassed assets amounting to RM52 billion and also it has a lot ongoing projects.
But Pakatan Rakyat has been criticising 1MDB because it has serious debt. But do remember, all projects managed by 1MDB is for the long-term benefits.
Abdul Hilmie: Economic jihad is the best move to overcome the poverty among the Malays. 1MDB is the savior of the Malay community. And it will be the driving force for our economy.
Bamboo: I guess part of the 1MDB debt goes to pay the cybertroopers to defend 1MDB. Pakatan MPs Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua are hitting on the right nerves to uncover the grand stealing of public money via 1MDB.
Zen: The economic jihad was launched in 1970 - more than 40 years ago - to help the bumiputera lots.
Now it is time to start an ‘audit jihad’ - to find out whether the hundreds of billions of ringgit poured into the economic jihad over the past four decades have been used as intended or wasted.
Some says the bumi equity currently is only between 20 - 25 percent of the total. Do we need another economic jihad? Or do we need to audit the results of the previous jihad before we move forward?
Hope 4 a Better Msia: Just because a government-owned organisation does some charity work, all can now be forgotten?
Let's say it cost RM10,000 each to send the 1,000 imams to Haj. That would amount to RM10 million. So it is okay to lose billions of ringgit after having spent RM10 million in charity work?
