Yesterday’s release of the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report on Sabah flooding of illegal immigrants was heralded with a deluge of pro-government tweets on cyberspace, as if on cue.

The tweets ranging from praise for the Sabah Eastern Security Command (Esscom), to accusing opposition parties of causing havoc, raised eyebrows of prominent Twitter users.

“Ah, the inarticulate cybertroopers are out in force. Wonder why,” tweeted former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang tweeted that the site was the target of “twitter bombs” by multiple-user accounts and called pro-government accounts “infantile”.

“Shows someone in authority is very ‘guilty conscious’ about the RCI report.

“Such sabotage by paid cybertroopers, admitted by the PM (Najib Abdul Razak), is most infantile,” Lim said.

The much anticipated and highly delayed RCI report cleared the government and political parties of any involvement in the mass issuance of citizenship to migrants in Sabah, dubbed "Project IC".

The endless stream of pro-government tweets inundated Malaysian Twitter timelines as accounts send out with similar and sometimes identical tweets.

Four accounts with the Twitter handles ‘noraidah01_10’, ‘noraidah002_10’, ‘noraidah003_10’ and ‘noraidah004_10’ sent out identical tweets on Esscom.

 "The establishment of Esscom is stabilising the country's safety" read the tweets, which were retweeted by other accounts with similar features.

The accounts mostly have few followers - the ‘noraidah’ accounts were followed only one user only -  and do not have profile pictures. Most also joined Twitter in mid-2012.

Most tweeted posts in support of former Prime Minister's Mahathir Mohamad's statement that he was not involved in Project IC.

The ‘noraidah’ accounts tag Pakatan Rakyat leaders like PKR vice president Tian Chua onto its tweets, as a result spamming them.

Released in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, the report blamed syndicates as the culprits behind illegal issuance of IC’s allegedly motivated by profit.

This counters widely-circulated belief that federal agencies and Umno leaders had issued hundreds of thousands of ICs to illegal migrants to destabilise political opponents in Sabah.

The report is for sale at RM100 per copy at the Sabah Federal Secretary Office at the Prime Minister’s Department and the Home Ministry’s One Stop Centre in Putrajaya starting tomorrow.
