Why is Rosmah a lightning rod of criticism?

YOURSAY ‘You only need protection when you've done something wrong.’

Protect me against nasty folk, Rosmah tells NGOs

Odin: I fully agree that the government-funded NGOs definitely should protect PM’s wife Rosmah Mansor from all those nasty people.

She has done a lot for the betterment of Malaysians at large. The fact that she has won awards and honourary doctorate degrees attest to her untiring efforts.

Even the poor school pupils deep in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak have tasted such things as croissants - pastries they didn't even know exist - all due to her caring, loving nature.

Truly, she is the Evita Peron of Malaysia.

Louis: Asking government-funded NGOs to protect her? It must be the greatest joke of the century.

Go compare yourself with wives of previous prime minister. Find out why they are loved so much by the public.

Even with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is so unpopular with the public, his wife Dr Siti Hasmah is respected and admired by the people. Learn from her.

Anonymous_1392114217: I have a question for Rosmah, why no one criticise Mahathir's wife even though her husband is a "villain"?

In fact, we respect her like our ‘nenek’ (grandmother). This shows ordinary Malaysians are not irrational and bias. Just look at yourself at the mirror when you wake up in the morning.

The Mask: Dear Datin Rosmah, you only need protection when you've done something wrong.

Indeed, compare yourself with the wives of the two former PMs, especially Siti Hasmah. How come she did not need to ask for protection of any kind?

Still didn't get it? Okay, how often did we see or hear of the wives taking centre stage?

Kingfisher: The "first' lady seems besieged by "nasty" people and seeks the protection of those who will stand by her so that she can then do more for them. Amusing to say the least, if not pathetic.

Pakatan Rhino: I believe that there is the possibility that the forces at play will try to paint Rosmah in a negative light and succeed in attacking PM Najib Razak through her.

It all depends on how well the media is engaged. But, at the end of the day, it could very well backfire on the opposition if whatever they are saying is untrue.

I don't understand why some of people, especially from the opposition, are willing to waste their time, energy and money to attack the PM's wife. What sins she has committed against us?

Tholu: Rosmah, of what positive bearing is it going be on the political, social and economic landscape of this nation by you being protected?

And incidentally protect you from what? Your penchant for shopping exorbitantly expensive jewellry and other personal accessories such as handbags and shoes?

Or are you seeking protection from criticism for using public money for private matters?

Nitendo: Protect Rosmah is like protecting the image of the nation. So it is our responsibility to protect the country's image.

UMYES: I have met her once when she was the patron of Cheshire Home which was organising a fashion charity event. I find her to be friendly and understanding.

Has she changed so much since then for people to dislike her?

Vijay47: The pro-Umno commenters are crawling out of the woodwork in their hundreds, no doubt to answer the urgent call to "protect and stand by me".

Perhaps the first question to be answered, in fact the only question, is: "Why does everyone have the long knives out for Rosmah?"

We had five prime ministers before Najib, yet not a single wife was hated and abused, including even Mahathir's spouse. On the contrary, the previous premiers' wives were treated with much affection and respect.

Malaysians generally may have differing political views but the heat of the conflicts is never directed to the wives of opponents.

Only two women have the distinction of earning such contempt and loathing - Rosmah and that obnoxious and shameless Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

By the way, Rosmah, who are you, a mere housewife, that people must arise to "protect" you?  Life would have been rosier had you chosen to be what the former PMs' wives were, ladies, and not what you are, a woman.

MinahBulat: The success of Malaysiakini has drawn the attention of BN bloggers, especially Umno cybertroopers.

The PM has chastised these Umno cybertroopers - indeed, after taking care of you chaps, you still call him ‘bengong’ and ‘bangang’. It all boils down to money, and with money they can subscribe to Malaysiakini to leave their comments.

So Datin Seri Rosmah, no worries they will work hard, including the NGOs, to protect you as instructed.

FairMind: If you have done good, you don't need to ask for protection. People will automatically come to your protection without been asked.
