YOURSAY ‘All religious activities produce noise, but we all tolerate it.’
Cops stopped 'noisy' service at Kajang church
Desperate for Change: If you have several people congregating to pray, whether Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists or any religion, it is bound to have a higher than normal level of sound.
I am sure they did not blasting the prayers over speakers. I cannot imagine the neighbours complaining, especially above a shoplot.
Why can't the police be more considerate? They could have waited for the mass to be over and then go over to speak to the person in authority so that this would not happen again.
Anonymous #70881335: If the church service was noisy, fine, the church elders there should tone it down, but let us not go looking for excuses to interfere in other people's religious services.
It is a very slippery road to bigotry and intolerance and trouble. Please, for God's sake, stop.
Odin: How noisy is noisy? It's relative. The vermin are obviously so imbecilic that they can only think of the 4 Cs - Chinese, Christians, Church, Communists - to get into the news and to divert the attention of the ordinary Malaysians away from far more serious issues besetting the country.
I thank my lucky stars I don't live near any structure that produce noise loud enough to tear my eardrums apart every day before dawn.
RR: Malaysians, particularly the police, should be more understanding of the rites of various religions practiced in this country.
Prayers from the mosques are the loudest yet we understand that it is a prayer. The police cannot act so stupidly because some stupid fellows complained.
Swipenter: Try reporting the prayers done five times daily is too loud for your liking you probably get arrested there and then at the police station.
As a nation, we have come to such a sad state of affair amongst us. Maybe it is due to long periods of indoctrination that you are not allowed to voice your opinion of certain issues here that made some people hypersensitive, beyond reason and too arrogant.
"Bodoh sombong" is more apt description of the attitude and mentality of such people.
VinceLim: It shouldn't be happen in our country. Noise issue cannot be taken as a reason to disturb any religious activity. All religious activities in Malaysia produce noise, but we all tolerate it.
This complaint could come from someone who is playing up sensitive issues and should be arrested under the Sedition Act.
Boonpou: How many times do we find cars parking at the roundabout on Friday because Muslims have to attend to their prayers? Never once did non-Muslims ever openly complain about it out of respect for the religion.
The question is why is it that Muslims cannot reciprocate when it comes to other religions. And why now are these Muslims complaining about excessive noise from a non-Muslim congregation when non-Muslims (including Muslims for sure) are often exposed with not prayers but speeches blaring from this or that mosque in Malaysia.
Do non-Muslims have no rights, having "the part of no part" to play in the development of this country?
To the Muslim majorities in Malaysia, speak out loudly about your compassion of a better Malaysia. It's about time you refuse to let your Muslimness be hijacked by certain people.
Anonymous 478584007: I call upon the IGP (inspector-general of police) to please note the following: Avoid getting into controversies. As it is, the non-Malays are feeling rather disturbed over numerous issues. I need not elaborate this.
I suggest the police advise the neighbours to be more tolerant just like the non-Malays have been extremely tolerant towards the Malays in numerous ways. The country has much to gain through tolerance and understanding.
Every day there is some problem or the other. Sarawak schools are having problems about children wearing crucifix on them. Tamil school children not having proper classrooms, children being made to have their meals next to the toilets simply because of the fasting month.
Whatever happens in Malaysia become world news within seconds and that is not good for the country. Personally I know the Malays are wonderful people and one of the finest in Malaysia. Let’s get the best of all races and we will have a great country.
Kilgore: Don't be fooled, incidents like this and other petty dramas are staged as intentional distractions from far more important issues.
Umno is very worried about the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) scandal and will be using every trick to draw attention away.
FairMind: Where churches are only allowed to be located in shoplots, the services are bound to be noisy to the neighbours as they are only separated by thin walls. Imagine, a mosque located in a shoplot.
There should be a by-law stipulating the level of decibels all religious services should be allowed to operate. If not, it will be arbitrary and seen as infringing on the rights guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.
In any case, the police should investigate the complaint of the noise level first and then tell the pastor nicely to lower the volume; not to disrupt the services halfway.
Remember, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was falsely accused of complaining the mosque's azan call and she was ISAed for a week only to find out later that the mosque speakers were faulty and Kok's complaint was not to be so.
Why there are so many religious problems frequently cropping up in Selangor? And now in Kajang where Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the state representative? No prize for the correct guess.
Pputeh: So this is what is meant when PM Najib Razak said “other religions will be looked after too”. Malaysia Boleh.
