Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has called on the United States to gaze into the mirror before taking potshots at others.

In a twitter posting, he called on the US to shutdown its Guantanamo detention centre.

Doing so, he added, "gives the US a vital chance to make things right and promote confidence in its democracy and judiciary".

Khairy was responding to US Vice-President Joe Biden, who earlier today tweeted concerns about the Sedition Act and other laws being used the stifle the opposition in Malaysia.

He also said the upcoming verdict regarding opposition Anwar Ibrahim's final appeal against his sodomy conviction "gives Malaysia a vital chance to make things right and promote confidence in its democracy and judiciary."

Meanwhile, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said Malaysia must continue to value justice.

"No special exception even if you are the opposition chief. Don't hide behind the word ‘democracy’," he tweeted.

He said some might value "democracy" more than "justice" but “put yourself in the victim's shoes. Then tell which is more important. Be fair.”

“Is it fair to crime victims if cases thrown out simply to uphold democracy? Justice also important in our country. Hope it is the same in US,” he added.

Also lending bullets to the two was former MCA’s Subang Jaya assemblyman Lee Hwa Beng, who tweeted: “US VP tweets concerns over Sedition Act. I am also concerned how police treat the blacks in US.”
