PAS vice-president Husam Musa said it has been reported that the cabinet meeting this week chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had allegedly discussed the investment body.
"This Wednesday during the cabinet meeting while the PM was abroad, a minister was reported raising the issue of 1MDB.
"The cabinet chaired by Muhyiddin as DPM took the opportunity to discuss the issue.
"Why was the minister in question brave to raise the issue, or brave to take the opportunity when the PM was absent," asked Husam in a statement today.
"How did news of the private cabinet meeting about the issue reach the media?
"For certain there is a motive behind this," he said.
Husam said Najib, who would have the chance to read the minutes of the meeting, should come clean on what has transpired and also comment on the police report yesterday.
"Doesn't Najib feel the heat of the 1MDB issue with these recent developments?" he asked.
'Will Zahid probe his boss?'
While it was the opposition that was initially nipping at 1MDB's heels over the many questions surrounding its activities and finances, with Najib having served a legal notice to Petaling Utara MP Tony Pua, the Umno chief's own party members have now taken the lead in the attacks.
Husam called the controversial investment body "the biggest scandal in Najib's era" musing that "the catalyst for Najib's downfall look set to be reality".
Calling the two incidents more than coincidence, Husam said Malaysians had the right to have the PM's personal explanation over the many questions surrounding the embattled organisation.
For example, said Husam, the people deserve to know who owned the land sold to 1MDB at a price "95 percent more expensive".
He also cited Umno veteran Kadir Jasin's comments in the latter's blog, noting that if true, "it seems 1MDB is groaning with illness at such a young age" and likening its malady to a "cancerous tumour waiting to rupture".
Casting doubt on whether the police report against 1MDB will yield answers, Husam said, "Whether the police dares to investigate the country's biggest boss or not is not the main issue. This is the biggest test for Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi."
"Does he dare to allow the police to act professionally in this issue?" he added.
BN partners flayed for silence
DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng echoed Husam's reservations, asking if the police will call up Najib and highflying businessman Jho Low in their probe.
Hoping the police investigation into the report will yield results, he said, "I hope the case will not be classified as NFA (no further action).
"We also wait to see if the top officers of 1MDB including Najib Razak and Low Thaek Jho aka Jho Low will be called in to give their statements," he said.
Commenting on Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan's police report against 1MDB yesterday, Lim asked why other BN component party leaders were silent on the matter.
"I would like to see what MCA, Gerakan other BN component parties, as well as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low and Abdul Wahid Omar to state their stand regarding 1MDB clearly to the people, and not continue to curry favour with Najib and just be 'pak hangguk' (yes men).
"In fact I challenge them to state their stand clearly on whether they agree or not, or are indifferent, to the manner in which 1MDB is operating," he said.
