The police will call up all five BFM presenters named in a police report lodged by several Muslim NGOs against the radio station this morning, the authorities have confirmed.

 

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigations Department (CID) deputy chief Khairi Ahrasa told Malaysiakini today that all those named in the report will be called in for investigations.

 

"We will follow the report. Whoever is named in the report, we shall call them in," he said.

 

The five named in the report were Sharaad Kuttan, Umapagan Ampikaipakan, Ezra Zaid, Patrick Teoh and Caroline Oh.

Khairi also said that the police had not decided on a date to call the five presenters in.

“We have not decided on the dates yet,” he said.

In the police report, the groups said that the five presenters had separately asked questions and made statements that are sensitive to Muslims.

The groups had also demanded that the BFM presenters be investigated under the Sedition Act.

BFM was recently fined RM 10,000 by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for airing an interview with Islamic scholar Reza Aslan last year without obtaining consent from Islamic authorities beforehand.

In the interview, Aslan had said that the world is “laughing” at Malaysia after the appellate court's decision last year that the word ‘Allah’ is exclusive to Muslims.
