Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng today demanded that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng explain his and his state government's role in gazetting a 2010 fatwa listing 40 words prohibited for use by non-Muslims, including Allah.

"What role did the Penang CM and the Pakatan state government play in approving the 2010 gazette?" Liang asked in a statement today.

"If non-Muslims are not affected by the gazette then Lim must apologise to Muslims for passing and endorsing a gazette that is not enforceable and essentially serves no purpose," he said.

If the 2010 ban does indeed apply to non-Muslims, contrary to Lim's claims, then the CM should be apologising to all Malaysians for gazetting a fatwa that runs against Pakatan’s policies, Liang ( right ) stressed.

He said that Lim had gotten himself into a "tricky" situation over the Allah issue.

"I hope this serves as a lesson to Lim and DAP not to engage in unproductive religion-based politics in the future," he asserted.

He also queried if the state government was in the "habit" of spending their time gazetting enactments that are not enforceable.
