Why is Marina afraid of hudud, asks Wanita Isma Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) questions why social activist Marina Mahathir is afraid of seeing hudud being implemented in Malaysia, as the law protects the interests of the people, including non-Muslims.
Its Wanita chief, Norsaleha Mohd Salleh, stressed that hudud law is only enforced on those who are truly guilty.
“If someone is not guilty of committing adultery, theft, robbery, murder, why the need for concern?” Norsaleha asked Marina who opposed its implementation.
Marina ( left ),who is also former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's daughter, had recently expressed hope that hudud would not be enforced in Kelantan, as it would divide the nation and she felt that even non-Muslims would not have the heart to see Muslims being subjected to such punishments.
Besides that, Norsaleha - who is also head of the Usuluddin Department at Kolej Univeristi Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (Kuis) - noted that Marina should have thought of public interest as well.
“If you (Marina) are sincere and concerned over Muslims facing hudud punishments, you should be even more concerned about the victims of violent acts by criminals,” she said.
The Wanita Isma chief stressed that Islam is a religion which looks after the interests of the general population and also individuals.
“Hudud is part of a mechanism in Islam which is being used to safeguard (public and personal) interests,” she said, adding that Marina should be careful when talking about religion.
