The Finance Ministry approved a RM50 million allocation for states hit by the worsening floods, said Finance Minister II Husni Hanadzlah.

An astounding 90,250 people are displaced by the floods in Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak and Perlis, the highest in history Bernama reported.

The allocations will be channelled through the state development offices, the national newswire reported him as saying.

The ministry will also assist in procurement of aid and rescue equipment so flood relief can reach affected areas, he said.

Yesterday, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim urged the federal government to provide grants to east coast states to deal with the natural disaster.

Kelantan has the highest number of evacuees at 32,343, followed by Terengganu (28,991), Pahang (24,316), Perak (4,335) and Perlis (265), Bernama reported.

    • Twelve more people evacuated overnight bringing total to 265.
