Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub says the rice bags printed with his face distributed to flood victims are leftovers from the 13th general election campaign.

The Machang Umno chief was retorting to those who accused him of delaying flood aid because he wanted his face and the BN printed on the bags of rice that were distributed.

“The sin of slander is worse than murder. You will answer to God in the afterlife. Don’t just call yourselves an Islamic party but don’t practise it,” Ahmad Jazlan wrote in capital letters on his Facebook page.

He said there was no truth to claims that the rice had to be transferred out of its original packaging to the ‘BN-branded’ packaging because the personalised rice were already in stock.

“When disaster struck and there was shortage of supply of aid, I took out my stock of 500 bags to be distributed immediately.

“This is no time for politics. This is a humanitarian mission,” he stressed.

Netizens frowned on pictures of bags of rice with his face, the words ‘Datuk Lan, Ahli Parlimen Machang’, and the BN and 1Malaysia logos, circulated online.

Close to 100,000 people have been displaced in Kelantan by the worst floods to hit the East Coast state in decades.

With electricity, water supply and telephone lines cut, stranded victims reached out via social media to tell desperate tales of being without money, food, drinking water and fuel for days.
