Unlike PM, Anwar does not have a private jet

YOURSAY ‘Are they expecting Anwar to mobilise the army, police and civil servants?’

Umno man: If PM can return, why not Anwar?

Louis: Another stupid comment from a BN man (Umno division leader Syed Ali Alhabshee). Come on, comparing Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim with PM Najib Razak is like comparing apples to oranges.

Anyway, Anwar must be elated to have his status elevated to that of a PM - which could be a reality in the next general election.

Why should Anwar return from his holidays? He need not do so because his presence in the country will not make much difference to the flood victims, unlike Najib who has all the government machinery at his disposal.

On top of that, his holidays are wholly funded from his own pocket and if he were to cut short his holidays, is Syed Ali going to reimburse him? Unlike Najib, whose trip is virtually on the taxpayers' expense.

Finally, he would be sadder to leave his family than Najib himself. Remember, Kajang assemblyperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is travelling as a private citizen.

She is subjected to all procedures as an ordinary citizen - queuing up at immigration, stringent custom checks and hailing a taxi to hotels - yet Najib's family breezes through all these, and best of all, with a government jet exclusively for their use.

Wg321: Anwar was unable to come back to Malaysia from New Zealand on time because he does not have a private jet like Najib’s darling, Rosmah Mansor, who is still holidaying in Indianapolis in the middle of America at government expenses.

Her plane, no 9M-NAA, needs to fly from Hawaii to Indianapolis via Los Angeles perhaps to change engine oil, a distance of over 10,000km.

Even if Anwar was able to come back to Malaysia on time, the government is not going to provide him with a helicopter to visit all the flooded areas where all roads are cut off, even though he is the opposition leader.

P Dev Anand Pillai: They never seem to amaze me in their stupidity. We have a culture and a system here that doesn't respect the opposition.

DAP’s Kluang MP Liew Ching Tong wanted to help, but was shooed away by Umno ‘vigilantes’ in his constituency.

Who has the keys to Putrajaya and the Prime Minister’s Office? Do the army, the police, the fire and rescue department, and other related agencies take orders from the leader of the opposition?

This is the longest-serving government in the democratic world, it should have mastered the art of handling calamities like this long ago. Why does it need the opposition to help now?

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng have done their part, and even deputised their state cabinet members to deal with any emergencies if the need arises.

It clearly goes to show that this country is in dire straits; we need proper leadership.

Disgusted: If Anwar is so important to the nation, then why do Umnoputras want to send him to jail on trumped-up sodomy charges?

On one hand, you want to get rid of him as the opposition leader, and on the other hand, you want him around when the country is in deep trouble.

Tell Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Umno to step aside in Putrajaya; let Pakatan Rakyat take over and deal with the country's troubles - which, in the first place, were mainly caused by Umno-BN.

Call for a snap general election to see who the rakyat support - and don't cheat.

Bad Head: Is Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi back already?

Hplooi: Exactly, Zahid (the kaki-pukul minister) should be fingered as he is the home minister, which includes civil defence.

Recalling all cabinet ministers is a knee-jerk reaction to bad press, and is a bad move. Having all ministers around will, in fact, interfere with relief efforts (it had already happened ). More optimally, they should target specific ministries.

Is our dear leader even thinking when conditions spin out of control? But does our dear leader even think?

Odysseus: I am not surprise at all, reading such statements from an Umno leader. They already cannot distinguish between a ruling party and the government.

Then, they could not differentiate between the cabinet and the Umno supreme council when making decisions for the country. Now, they are confused on the role of an opposition leader and the prime minister.

Is Syed Ali expecting Anwar to mobilise the army, police and civil servants?

Mushiro: When the ‘people first’ Najib was caught with his pants down with his “golf diplomacy” in Hawaii, only then did he reluctantly flew to Kelantan.

In Kelantan, Umno had to print Najib's smiling photo on rice bags before they could be distributed. So much for Najib and Umno’s “very sincere” efforts to help the flood victims.

Those who were truly sincere in this flood situation were the public, many private sector businesses, and some NGOs.

Well Thats Fantastic: BN is not the government, it simply holds the office of government. Why the need to tell people where aid is from, if not for taking advantage of the situation?

Put a Malaysian flag if that’s what it needed. You belittle your own efforts in your attempt to gain political mileage from this disaster since no one else did it.

I keep asking why the government needed to activate its machinery to address the problem - instead of an automatic system which would just fall into place - when these areas flood every year?

But putting pictures on your aid answers my question; every year leaders take advantage of the unfortunate to remind them how caring BN is. Despicable!

We need leaders who can plan for the future, not those who react and rush in pretending to be heroes, spending tax money and expecting all to be grateful.

Justice for Malaysia: I dare BN to make Anwar the PM, then we will know what he can or cannot do.
