The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is seeking 14 more individuals to assist investigations regarding the spreading of rumours on the flood disaster in the east coast states in Peninsular Malaysia.

 

The individuals, aged 21 to 47, are said to have spread rumours, among them about a dam in southern Thailand releasing water and only BN supporters getting aid.

             

According to a statement by MCMC last night, the 14 are:

           

1. Raja Mohd Haidi Raja Daod

2. Zawawi Mat

3. Mohd Bustam Omar

4. Mohamad Azrani Daud

5. Mohd Fauzi Mohd Azmi

6. Mohamad Zamzami Yaakob

7. El Jiffy Abd Aziz

8. Yuliza Indriani Zulfin

9. Farah Wahida Abdullah Suhaimi

10. Natrah Mohamed

11. Norazimah Zakaria

12. Siti Asiah Shaary

13. Ayub Musa

14. Nor Azwani Saimi

           

All of them are requested to urgently contact MCMC investigating officers Mohamad Syukri Jamaluddin (019-286 9515) or Rafina Mimi Muhammad (019-286 9471).

 

Meanwhile, MCMC Monitoring and Enforcement Division head, Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin said eight individuals who were earlier called up had given their full cooperation.

 

He said MCMC was working closely with the police in investigating the spreading of the rumours.

The MCMC listed a total of 10 "false news" it said were spread by various individuals named by the agency.

 

The false news are:

 

1. Family of 10 drowning to death after being trapped in their home in Guchil, Kelantan.

2. The collapse of a relief centre at a Manek Urai school.

3. Government hiding figures of deaths in the floods.

4. Kelantan flood was caused by dam water released from South Thailand.

5. Aid from NGOs are not reaching victims.

6. Body of a child said to be a flood victim found in mud.

7. Royal Malaysian Air Force helicopter had to be rented to evacuate patients from Kuala Krai Hospital.

8. A woman jumping off a school building into the flood water.

9. Authorities blocking aid from reaching those who need them.

10. Aid only received by BN supporters.
