Khairuddin Abu Hassan, who courted controversy over his police report against 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is pressing on for action on alleged irregularities in the Finance Ministry-owned company.

The Batu Kawan Umno division deputy chief will be giving his statement to the Bukit Aman commercial crime unit and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Putrajaya soon.

The police have been professional in carrying out their investigation over his report, he said.

However, Khairuddin (below) attacked the Penang Umno leadership for their silence over the matter, and for attacking him over his report.

1MDB's board of advisors is chaired by Umno president and prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

1MDB has repeatedly insisted that everything it does is above board and is funded through international debt and not taxpayers.

In an emotional press conference in his home in Bukit Mertajam today, the outspoken Kharuddin challenged Umno to change the party's state leadership.

He said that instead of attacking him over his police report on 1MDB, Umno should replace state party chief Zainal Abidin Osman.

This is because the state Umno has not been active on the grassroots levels thus risking losing up to three seats more in the 14 th general election, he said.

Penang Umno holds 10 out of 40 seats in the Penang state assembly, one less than it previously won in the 12th polls in 2008.

Umno needs to see beyond Lim Kit Siang

"All Penang Umno leaders do is when Lim Kit Siang (below) do something wrong, they lodge police reports, invite the press and take photographs.

"That is their entire struggle. What are the plans and programmes for the people?" he asked.

He said that Penang Umno does very little on the ground compared to Pakatan Rakyat parties and must change to remain relevant in the next polls.

His comment follows a police report lodged against him by Batu Kawan Umno youth chief Mohamad Helmi Ibrahim, who accused Khairuddin of making false claims about 1MDB.

Helmi, who is also Pekida Seberang Perai Selatan vice chairman, said he lodged the report in his capacity as an NGO leader.

"What has my report against 1MBD to do with Umno? How can asking the police to probe 1MBD over how it handles the rakyat's money tarnish the name of Umno?" he asked.

In a tit-for-tat, Khairuddin today lodged a police report against Mohamad Helmi, saying his allegations were "serious, malicious and irresponsible".

Khairuddin said Helmi was greenhorn ( budak hingusan ) who knows next to nothing about his police report against 1MBD.

"Does he know the content of the documents and evidence I handed over to the police to say I had made a false report?"

Khairuddin has also engaged a lawyer to review Helmi's statement and is strongly mulling legal action againt him.

He also said that Helmi had been issued a show cause letter by the Batu Kawan Umno division for not attending four important party meetings.

He urged Penang Umno to look into its members like Helmi who fail to respect the leadership by not attending meetings and then becoming "panicky" over Khairuddin’s report against 1MBD.

"It is this kind of Umno leaders who tarnish the party's image," he quipped.
