Ibrahim Ali is no ‘genius’, he just has strong backers

YOURSAY ‘We have a saying, ‘A crying baby gets its milk’.’

Researcher: Ibrahim Ali a 'communication genius'

FairMind: French researcher Sophie Lemière is wrong. Firstly, all the newspapers and mainstream media (MSM) are controlled by BN. They are forced to write on matters pertaining to the agenda of BN (aka Umno) and censor whatever is not desirable to BN.

Secondly, their newspapers do not sell well as claimed by Lemière. Utusan Malaysia , Bernama and New Straits Times are in the doldrums and in financial difficulties. They survived only through the massive support and advertisements made by the powers-that-be so that these MSM entities can continue to serve their master's agenda.

You are giving too much credit to Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa - he is far from being a genius and a great communicator. Even my maid is better than Ibrahim Ali. But I agree with Lemiere that we should give less space to Ibrahim Ali.

Vgeorgemy: We don’t think the word ‘genius’ can in any way be associated with Ibrahim Ali.

Malaysians were shaken from their ‘tidak apa’ attitude earlier when their rights were trampled upon.

By publicising such statements we were made aware of these groups’ strength in manipulating the administrative tools to further the right-wing agenda.

Anonymous #20513663: Ibrahim Ali may have a good communications strategy, but much more important than that, he has strong backers (or puppet-masters) who have a lot of 'influence' with the mainstream media.

In addition, much of extremism and its diffusion in Malaysia is underground. Some of it is done through state agencies and apparatus.

The solution is not to 'ignore' extremism as it will only continue to flourish in the dark and 'erupt' one day. Instead the media must expose and counter extremism. It is especially important to expose the secret 'backers' and 'instigators' of extremists.

Lemiere herself has done a good job exposing links between Umno and Pekida. More work of this sort must be done.

I understand it is difficult and the alternative media may not be used to doing this level of investigative journalism, but this is one area where they need to improve and where they can really make an impact.

Fair&Just: 'Shit, shit, shit' sounds familiar? It doesn't need a genius to say such words but perhaps the audience are mostly of third world mentality of which such words are able to command their attention.

RKR: We have a saying, "A crying baby gets its milk". So Ibrahim has mastered that.

Fair Play: I absolutely disagree. Ibrahim Ali never was, never is or ever will be a communication genius. He should have been locked up a long time ago because he has violated every known and written law in the country.

The only reason why he is still around is exactly that, the powers-that-be find him a useful person to suit their 'purpose'.

As for Malaysiakini , it's just a news portal. Their rating and revenue is primarily measured in term of 'hits' - that is the number of person visiting its website. Money is king, so is revenue.

Believe me, if Malaysiakini ceases to publish his outright lies and controversial issues, he wouldn't last more than one week.

But we, the right-thinking rakyat, want Malaysiakini to succeed, so we 'tolerate' Ibrahim Ali by hurling abuses back at him to get it out of our system. It's as simple as that.

Malaysia Truly Asia: Lemiere, you did some good work, however I think you missed one thing.

Even the opposition groups have media, NGOs and various groups at their bidding and are also financed by them to create problems for the ruling party, embarrass the ruling party and try to create chaos at every ruling party initiative.

Anonymous_1419577444: So, the suggestion is not to give air-time to people who speak nonsense.

Here's a suggested list: Perkasa, Isma, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former chief judge Abdul Hamid Mohamad, Lim Guan Eng and Azmin Ali (when they speaks like 'jaguh kampung'), Nik Abduh Nik Aziz, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (way past his shelf life), all our ministers, MPs, senators and state reps...

Like that, no more newsworthy news to read anymore.

Bender: Ibrahim Ali is no genius when it comes to communication. All he ever did was say things without thinking about the repercussions.

He spoke of Malay supremacy without even caring about hurting the feelings of non-Malays in this country (or inciting racial hatred). That is why the media love him so much. He's the voice of racism that the ruling party capitalises on.

What he did was provide the bullet for the government artillery (i.e. the media) to spew out with complete deniability. When things go sour due to his statements, the government will simply say that Ibrahim Ali does not represent the opinion of the government.

That is why up until now Ibrahim Ali is above the law when it comes to sedition whereas others who spoke their mind have to bear the full brunt of the law.

I think Lemiere realises that even though Ibrahim Ali speaks of Malay supremacy, a lot of Malays (those who can use their brain properly at least) don't like him.

David Dass: And it does not matter that we are now so polarised as a nation, that the MCA, Gerakan and MIC do not represent the racial communities that they were meant to represent. We have to renew the vision for the country. Who are willing to do that?

The Group of 25, now plus 10 and plus the hundreds of individuals and NGOs that have supported them, have kick started the process.

Will it gather momentum or are we so far gone that the Chinese only want to leave the country and the Malays want to retreat into a very conservative Islam, leaving God to do the work we should be doing ourselves?

Where are the Indians and the people of Sabah and Sarawak in all of this? I haven't a clue.
