The controversial tweet by Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director Eric Paulsen that the National Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is promoting extremism "every Friday" was an insult to Islam, a PAS Youth leader said today.

 

Deputy youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, the son of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, said that Paulsen's tweet was an insult to Islam if the latter was referring to Friday sermons, for which the text is prepared by Jakim.

 

Writing in his Facebook page, Khalil demanded the tweet be deleted and for Paulsen to apologise to all Muslims in the country.

 

"If he meant Friday sermons, then this is an insult to all the Muslims," he said.

 

"I urge that this tweet be deleted and for him to apologise to all Muslims who had been insulted by this," he added.

 

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar had already tweeted that the police would be probing Paulsen ( left ) under the Sedition Act over the tweet.

 

In a statement today however, Paulsen criticised the IGP for following the accusations being made by "pro-Umno cybertroopers".

 

Khalid's tweet came after pro-Umno bloggers trained their guns at Paulsen over his tweet. 

 

"It is rather unbecoming and shocking for the IGP to be taking instructions from pro-Umno cyber-troopers and supporters on Twitter when he should be neutral when dealing with them whose work is obviously politically motivated and done in bad faith," Paulsen said in a statement today.

Paulsen had since removed the posting from his Twitter account.
 
When contacted, he declined to elaborate, stating that police has began an investigation against him and he will let the probe run its course.
 

Khalid also posted a picture of DAP's Kampar MP Ko Chung Sen, claiming that the latter too will be probed for calling for Islamic civilisation studies be scrapped.

 

But the photograph with Ko's supposed quote was edited and the MP flayed the IGP for not following his own advice to not spread false information.
