The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) said that indencency is to be expected at concerts, such as the one by K-Pop group B1A4 last Saturday, and it is for this reason that Islam forbids such events.

"These indecent acts in public are to be expected when concerts are organised without considering its benefits compared to adverse effects.

"It is for this reason Islam forbids organising entertainment events that can cause carelessness, as its repercussions are far worse," said Jakim director-general Othman Mustapha ( left ) in a statement today.

He said this in reference to the mini concert in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, where members of the B1A4 boy band had hugged several tudung-clad fans.

Othman stressed that the organiser - TGM Events - must take full responsibility.

“I urge the organisers and those involved to take serious responsibility on weighing in the good and bad in arranging any activities before organising it,” Othman said.

He added that the department - which had anticipated such incidences - has published a guideline on entertainment events for Muslims since 2007.

Othman questioned if the organisers had viewed the guidelines seriously, adding that Jakim was never consulted over the B1A4 fanmeeting.

'Jawi instructed to take action'

“This concert was never referred to Jakim, in fact, Jakim did not know about the programme at all," he noted.

Othman added that the Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi) has been instructed to take action with regard to last Saturday's incident.

He did not specify what sort of action would be taken.

Othman further said he was informed that the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) is calling up the organiser for an explanation, and that Jakim is prepared to assist.

TGM Events, in a Facebook posting, had apologised for the fiasco and lambasted the media for claiming that the incident was tantamount to molestation, which it said was out of context.

"In future events, we will take into consideration the cultural and religious implications of the interaction between fans and artists," it said.

A video of the South Korean group embracing the teenage girls was uploaded on YouTube , titled 'Malay girls molested on stage by Kpop band B1A4'.

In the video, the boy band was seen interacting with four tudung-clad girls and its members subsequently hugged them during the fan meeting event held at the KL Live Centre.

A band member also kissed one of the girls on the forehead.
