Friday sermon warns of K-Pop influence
Malaccan:
Jakim (Islamic Development Department of Malaysia) should spell out the hidden agenda by K-Pop groups if it is to remain a credible body.
What could K-pop's agenda be, other than winning fans, money and fame? Is Jakim insinuating that K-Pop is anti-Islam? Have they targeted Muslims only? If so, why is K-Pop popular not only among Muslims but also non-Muslims?
This leads to Jakim's favourite bogeyman, which is the ‘liberal’ agenda, which Jakim often link to Christianity in concert with NGOs like Isma, etc.
Again, is there any meaningful basis apart from slander? Can Jakim really speak on Christianity, or any other religion, if they do not have the expertise or relevant knowledge?
Surely if they had, then Christians could insist that Jakim embrace Christianity. After all, this is the same argument Jakim and many Muslims of the same sway give when others speak of Islam.
It is when Jakim so often cannot back up its accusations that it may be branded extreme in its views.
Anonymous #20513663: The aim is quite simple and clear: create a siege mentality in order to get people to vote for the 'Malay' party which will 'protect' them from the Jews, the Christians, the communists, the Americans/West, the pluralists, the liberals, the Syiahs and other heretics, the 'deviants' (transgenders), and now the Koreans.
Next it will be the extra-terrestrials, the Loch Ness monster, the little green men under your bed...
Patriot1: Performing artists don't give two hoots about the religious values or for that matter, the cultural practices of Malaysia. To them it's just another performance for tickets sold. How complicated can that be?
Hidden agenda? Their only agenda is to give concert goers the biggest bang for their buck.
Tok Karut: The ‘hidden agenda’ of shallow minds is alive and well within the Muslim civil service and ministers... no need to look at K-Pop. What is the alternative culture here? There is none for offer.
So I think it’s ludicrous to blame K-pop and others who have captured the imagination of young people worldwide.
Anonymous_3e86: K-Pop's only agenda is about the entertainment business. Those who attended the concert did it at their own free will. To accuse K-Pop of having a hidden agenda amounts to slandering them.
The Analyser: Ah yes. Everything has to have an agenda attached to it. Of course, it's beyond the realms of possibility that this hug between the K-Pop stars and their fans might be nothing more than a basic human response in a moment of euphoria.
Meanwhile, there are a few other slightly more important issues confronting the Islamic world, most of them self-induced. But those matters are of no importance when compared to the damage done to Jakim's ego because people dared to question their obsession about hugging.
Abasir: The fact is PM Najib Razak, and wife Rosmah Mansor and for that matter, the entire cabinet has been publicly and frequently cavorting with the sinful West (and the East) for as long as they have been around.
Najib, especially prefers the company of evil and sinful foreigners as evidenced by his frequent trips. Rosmah has been pictured hugging Indian film stars and, heaven forbid, even a Chinese badminton player half her age.
All of this means that Jakim has not had a serious talk with them about preserving Islamic culture. So sad. I hope Jakim takes its job more seriously.
Gaji Buta: The gist of the sermon provided in the news report seems to be totally opposite to the theme.
The sermon seems to talk about restricting/avoiding external influences or to put up barriers to protect one's faith, and the theme is 'self-transformation', i.e., not focus on the outside, but the inside. Maybe I missed something.
Sali Tambap: Self-transformation is good if it leads one towards purity, love, righteousness, loving God and one another as creations of God, and turn away from hatred and evil.
Self-transformation should also lead to self-respect and respect of others; and be confident of one's self-value and dignity. Sometimes to be good, one is not afraid to show it by word and action.
Hplooi: Pareidolia - the propensity or tendency for people to see patterns in formless data or images (perceived patterns are usually anthropomorphic in nature, for example, face of man on the moon).
Carried to extremity (where one sees images or perceived threat in every shadow) probably points to paranoia. Paranoia can also be the result of excessive "sensitising" during the impressionable developing stage (i.e. when young).
As I cannot see any cure or even a recognition of this as a malady amongst its victims, I would strongly suggest that all international entertainers should avoid Malaysia like the plague.
Imanust Nais Yalam: K-Pop is now more dangerous than IS (Islamic State).
