PKR will not hold any rally on Feb 10, when the Federal Court delivers its verdict on Anwar Ibrahim's final appeal against his Sodomy II conviction and five-year prison sentence.

Responding to a question, PKR's MP for Sungai Petani, Johari Abdul, said the party "will fight" should the opposition leader be jailed.

"Oh, of course we will fight. There are several methods. But we will use the method of elections," Johari told a press conference today.

"We will stick to that and we will not go beyond that," he stressed, and went on to term the sodomy charges in the past and present as a "political ploy".

Anwar has always maintained that the Sodomy II charge, similar to the first one in 1998, was fabricated by his rivals. The government has denied this.

His previous conviction was marked by a series of street demonstrations, popularly known as the Reformasi movement.

Meanwhile, Johari also revealed that PKR would hold a nationwide roadshow in support of the opposition leader.

 

The roadshow, starting from Feb 1 until judgment day, will be held at 10 venues.

 

"This might be his (Anwar's) last chance to meet with party leaders as well as his supporters," he said.

Johari said the roadshow would also serve to educate the people on the situation in the country.

Among the issues to be raised will be the performance of Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the falling value of the ringgit.
