Selangor MB passes first acid test on Kidex

YOURSAY ‘A good start for Azmin in standing against Kidex.’

MB Azmin blocks objection-riddled Kidex

FellowMalaysian: This is the first positive step taken by Azmin Ali since he became Selangor's MB three months ago. Good news to the people who are resisting Kidex (Kinrara-Damansara Expressway) and to those who oppose tolled highways.

I believe that should include all Pakatan Rakyat's leaders, MPs, senators, and its supporters as this is part of the coalition’s election manifesto. But as rightly cautioned by Say No to Kidex’s (SNTK) Mak Khuin Weng, do not cheer yet.

Perancang's coming meeting with property owners (those affected by land acquisition) should now be cancelled based on MB's latest directives. This remains a sore thumb. Best of luck to SNTK.

Wira: If Pakatan somehow loses power in Selangor, you will certainly find a Kidex revival as cronies and their partners must be given goodies. So Selangorians, you reap what you sow. Vote wisely.

Unspin: Based on his performance so far, it would be wise to make Azmin the new opposition leader in Parliament instead of DAP’s Lim Kit Siang or Abdul Hadi Awang of PAS.

In addition, Azmin is young, articulate, measured and handsome - Malaysians can’t ask for more.

KockKnock: To all highway developers, forget Selangor, go to Johor. We desperately need highways from the Malacca interchange to Muar and from there to Batu Pahat. You will make tons of money.

Axolotl: Good move, Azmin. Please stick to your guns on this issue and you will gain much respect and public confidence in your integrity.

Abasir: Before you break out the pink syrup, wait for the March 10 meeting for it to be officially cancelled.

Knowing the people involved (remember Altantuya Shaariibuu, PKFZ, NFC, Sodomy I and II) and that millions have already changed hands, the current jubilation is a bit premature.

Odin: I agree with Abasir. Bear in mind that the project is a reward for certain parties, the party that is the giver isn't going to be too happy, and it may exercise its power to queer Azmin's pitch.

So, it might be a good idea to keep the bottle each of syrup and of champagne uncorked for now.

Myop101: Why is everyone elated? Are you sure it is cancelled for good? In addition, we definitely need highways, given the pace of development in the Klang Valley.

Public transport alone cannot reduce traffic growth in light of the overly focused development in Klang Valley which continues to draw a net migration of population from other parts of Malaysia.

Guna Otak Guna Otak: Myop101, yes, we need some highways but not those constructed by Umno at inflated costs, with non-negotiated tenders, with high toll charges and with poor-quality construction.

Just look who are the owners of the projects. And they dare not even publish the terms of the contracts. You may enjoy paying tolls to Umno cronies but not the majority of Malaysians.

I, for one, am definitely feeling elated. This is the good that the Pakatan can do against the cronies-ridden BN.

Alfy: I am sorry but I support the Kidex. I live around the Kinrara area. It’s more of a convenience to me rather than the perspective of mostly business owners who complain about this.

I don't care if its BN or PKR-led projects, but it certainly does ease much traffic congestion for me and many of my friends who support it.

Angry Citizen: We can and must improve public transport systems even if it means that we are somewhat inconvenienced by not getting from A to B in air-conditioned comfort in our own wheels.

We are adding more cars and their emissions than what is permissible healthwise. Cancer is apparently striking one in two and don't we see why? What with the unhealthy air in addition to polluted water and food.

Tailek: Azmin, continue doing the right thing and with proper governance and transparency, and you will be prime minister material in due time.

Mosquitobrain: The government of the day is judged by its deeds and not by its words. Good job.

RCZ: Dear MB, so far you have been living up to the rakyat’s expectations. You have shown that unlike BN, the opposition walks the talk.

Please keep this up and there is no doubt you will have the rakyat’s continued support and vote. Please see this cancellation through and don't give in to BN’s pressure and tactics.

The Force: Azmin, this is the way to go. You have passed the acid test. PKR will continue to rule Selangor.

Besides that, imagine a huge above-ground concrete structure passing throughout Petaling Jaya city, creating an ugly sight. Keep the BN cronies away from Selangor.

Rayfire: Thank you for making a wise decision. Please do more to uplift the economy and infrastructure of Selangor. Previously, this is much neglected. I do hope the drainage maintenance issues are addressed quickly.

Angry Citizen: Well done, Azmin. It’s time to put a stop to crony projects that benefit nobody but the cronies. It’s time for public transport to be enhanced and improved instead.

Malaysia Truly Asia: Sorry, the Federal Highway Authority is a ‘federal’ agency and as such it has the right on building highways. Azmin can say ‘no’ now, knowing the March meeting will give the go-ahead.

NuckinFuts: Another more urgent highway project that will wreck total destruction to a huge part of Selangor's undisturbed water catchment jungle is the EKVE highway. And it has just been given the green light - under the radar.

Well Thats Fantastic: Next, pass a law that all concession agreements must be open to the public for them to be legally binding within the state of Selangor, and we might have a really great start.

Disgusted: Well, Azmin has proven he's got balls unlike former MB Khalid Ibrahim.

Fair&Just: Poof! Someone’s billion ringgit dream gone up in a wisp of air? But don't worry, the crooks, schemers, parasites, rent-seekers will plan more money grabbing projects if the same regime is still the government.

Mushiro: This is the right decision. But the federal government will compensate the cronies lavishly for this loss.
