There could be a battle royale on national television if Sodomy II prosecutor Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and his critics are willing to participate in debate on the case.

This is because Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said he is willing to provide the platform for an open debate between Shafee and those claiming political conspiracy.

"This is a baseless accusation," Ahmad Shabery told Bernama today.

"I actually don't want to interfere in this matter, but when there are parties which continue to tarnish the country's image and its judiciary and to question our judges' decision to the extent of trying to influence other countries to condemn Malaysia over the case, it can be considered as treachery to this country," he said.

Ahmad Shabery's offer comes after PAS' Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin said is willing to debate the matter with Shafee or Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

“God willing, I accept Shafee and Umno Youth chief's challenge and am willing to debate or be part of a forum with them on the matter...

“The debate should be held at any public university and be live telecast on RTM or TV3 so Malaysians will hear live what is being said by the panelists,” Hanipa said in a statement.

Earlier PKR Youth said it is willing to debate with Umno Youth on the same issue.
