PAS woefully inept in handling Sirul PC

YOURSAY ‘It’s not that easy to do a teleconference with a detained person.’

Sirul: I have nothing to say... for now

Ben-ghazi: I knew all along it won’t be easy to have a teleconference with a detained person - anywhere. Why so much fanfare with the planned teleconference?

PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar announced the event without doing any groundwork with the Australian authorities. Now he has announced his departure date to Australia.

If the government wants to block his travel, they can do it with ease. Why can't he leave quietly? Why does he have to beat the ‘kompang’?

Expect nothing to come out of Sirul Azhar Umar’s mouth even if Mahfuz goes to Australia.

Anonymous_3e86: Is Mahfuz trying to pull a fast one on the rakyat? Is he trying to shore up his popularity amongst PAS members?

He has indeed failed miserably. He just made a fool of himself and the opposition. If he can't get this done without any hiccups, what makes him think that hudud is any simpler?

Dalvik: Just when PAS thought they could do a grand expose on the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder using the power of press, they had instead full press coverage on their failure to do so. Public exposes needs to be well-planned.

From this case alone, we can tell that PAS doesn't have a good strategy team. This is not even asking them to manage the country.

Wira: If anyone can get Sirul to talk, it's the Australian government. That is, if they can promise him protection, give him exclusive rights to his story which he can sell and give him a new identity.

The other parties that can get him to talk are Malaysians after they vote in a new government in GE14. Sirul is smart. He knows he is no longer useful after he opens his mouth. That's why he is still mulling over whether to tell or not to tell.

His information is worth something and he needs to somehow cash in on it. After all, he still has hungry mouths to feed at home.

Justine Gow: In this land of endless possibilities, has anyone considered the following conspiracy theory?

Due to public pressure in this murder case, the judges had no choice other than to pass the death sentence on Sirul and Azilah Hadri.

Sirul is instructed, or allowed, to ‘escape’ to Australia so that he can be deported back with his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment and later let out early by a pardon for good behaviour.

If his death sentence can be commuted, why not Azilah's as well, to be fair and consistent? After all, it is the same crime they committed, so goes the argument.

In this conspiracy theory, all the talk about spilling the beans is just for show, noises created to further distract the public from what is actually happening. Any budding writer out there who is interested in expanding this into a novel?

Kangkung: I guess there is nothing to gain in revealing all except to squeeze you-know-who to make big payouts and I think the Australian government is also using this fugitive to make some kind of barter trade with you-know-who.

We can almost hear someone breathing a big sigh of relief.

Clongviews: Mahfuz, please don't be so naive that you can organise a teleconference so easily. It is a lesson to learn. Next time be more discreet when doing such interviews. Learn from Malaysiakini .

Pemerhati: From what has been revealed so far by Abdul Razak Baginda in his court affidavit, we know that Najib’s aide de camp, DSP Musa Safri introduced chief inspector Azilah to Abdul Razak and Azilah told him that he had killed six or more people.

Corporal Sirul in his statement to the police (on the Asia Sentinel site) said, “Azilah talked about a reward of between RM50,000 and RM100,000 if the case was settled... While on the 8th floor, Azilah asked me to ‘shoot to kill’ all three women in the hotel room.”

From this, it is clear that corporal Sirul was the lowest ranking police officer who took orders from his superior officer, chief inspector Azilah, and who in turn took orders from his superior, deputy superintendent Musa.

As it is unlikely that Musa would have revealed to Azilah who gave the order to kill Altantuya, the two killers thus would not know who gave the original order to kill.

Guns 'n' Roses: I bet Mahfuz’s trip to Australia next week will turn up to be another dud. Why should Sirul reveal anything to him or any political party? His revelation can earn him big money.

He can use it to make a deal to ensure permanent security and protection for himself and his family. He can use it to demand freedom from prosecution.

There are endless ways he can make good use (for himself and his family) of his insider's knowledge, if he has any, on this Malaysian scandal-cum-crime-of-the-century.

Hank Marvin: Can someone like Sirul be trusted? The fact that he was willing to kill without question is telling. Sirul was not a soldier acting under orders during war or in the battlefield.

Headhunter: As suspected, it was just a fishing trip for Sirul. Using the press and opposition, he probably upped his price a few notches. Expecting him to clear his conscience? I don't think he has got any.

TC Chan: This is nothing more than just politics at play by PAS. What makes you think Australia would allow Mahfuz to visit him at the detention centre?

If Sirul has something to say, he needs to say it, otherwise he is just grandstanding. No need for political parties to get involved.

The Analyser: Aw... you shouldn't be so tough on Mahfuz. For all you know, he might have been acting on orders from above. Isn't that the standard alibi for this sort of farce?
