PKR will not take a stand on the hudud bill PAS proposes to present to Parliament until it shares the contents with its Pakatan Rakyat allies.

“We want to see (the bill) first. Let us see the bill and then we will debate.

“It is unfortunate for me to debate on something that we don’t know yet,” PKR whip Johari Abdul told reporters at the party headquarters this morning.

There have been a lot of questions arising on the contents of the proposed hudud bill and what would be included in hudud in Kelantan, which would be specifically for Muslims.

Johari ( right ) also called on PAS to give a clear explanation on the contents of the hudud bill, not just to parliamentarians but to all Malaysians.

“A lot of explanation needs to be done (on hudud). An official should explain to us and when we say ‘explain to us’, I don’t mean three or four of us but to all of us and to the rakyat,” added Johari, who is the MP for Sungai Petani.

PAS is set to table the hudud amendment bill in the Kelantan state assembly sitting on March 18. It was originally slated to be tabled on Dec 29 last year, but was put off.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob has been intent on pushing the tabling of the bill, but was forced to postpone it when the flood situation in Kelantan worsened, with flood waters inundating buildings in various parts of the state.

The Kelantan government also plans to table a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to seek approval for amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 to enable hudud to be implemented in the state.
