PKR has denied that it has ever paid any of its members to attend rallies.

Party communications chief Fahmi Fadzil said today a letter allegedly signed by party vice-president Rafizi Ramli, promising allowances to attend this Saturday's Kitalawan rally is fake.

"After looking at the letter, there are a number of irregularities. The letterhead is wrong, and the letterhead is not supposed to appear on the second page.

"No such letter was sent out. Whoever sent this out has ill intent," Fahmi ( right ) told reporters at a press conference in the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

The letter sighted by Malaysiakini offers each PKR member attending the March 7 rally RM150 as individual meal allowance and another RM500 as accommodation allowance for each branch.

"I want to claim my allowance if that is true," PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad joked when asked about this.

'Nonsense to hold rally in a stadium'

On a different matter, Nik Nazmi said the Kita Lawan rally would not be held at a stadium as it will be nonsensical to do so.

"Public gatherings (are) part of (the) exercise of freedom of speech. It's about us trying to communicate something.

"If you are somewhere isolated from the public, it does not make sense," Nik Nazmi ( right ) said.

Besides public visibility, access to public transport was also another factor, he added.

Participants in Saturday's rally have been told to gather at three checkpoints - Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni and the PAS headquarters on Jalan Raja Laut - before marching to the Sogo mall.

Each checkpoint gathering will be headed by these people:

Pasar Seni: Adam Adli Abdul Halim (activist), Fahmi Zainol (activist), Safwan Anang (activist), Bawani KS (PSM) and Rafizi Ramli (PKR)

Masjid Jamek: Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PKR), Teo Kok Seong (DAP) and Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR)

PAS headquarters: Suhaizan Kayat (PAS), Shamsul Iskandar (PKR) and Tian Chua (PKR)

The rally aims to secure the freedom of jailed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, as well as to pressure Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to resign for failing in his duties.
