With less than 24 hours for the March 2 Freedom rally to take place, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s daughters pleaded to the people today to take part in the gathering.

In a passionate plea, Anwar’s daughters Nurul Iman Anwar and Nurul Nuha Anwar urged Malaysians to “voice out against oppression”.

In a video posted on rally organiser Kita Lawan’s Facebook page today, Nurul Iman said tomorrow would be her father’s 26th day of incarceration as “Malaysia’s number one political detainee”.

“This solidarity is not just for papa, or for Anwar Ibrahim, but this fight is for a better Malaysia,” she said.

Her sister, Nurul Nuha ( right ) said Anwar was detained unjustly for his message of reform, democracy and for a just Malaysia.

“I call on you, my freedom loving Malaysians, to voice out against oppression, any injustice and abuse and to defend the marginalised.

“In the spirit of solidarity, united we march for a better Malaysia,” Nurul Nuha said.

Apart from Nurul Iman and Nurul Nuha, the video is intertwined with pictures of Anwar and his family and supporters, as well as video clips of Anwar speaking at a rally and the speech he made after his conviction.

“This is the price I have to pay. How hard it is to achieve what we fight for, that is, justice for Malaysians,” Anwar is heard saying in one of the clips.

The video also shows PKR’s Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad as well as DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud and Syefura Othman, among others, holding placards urging people to join the rally.

The video comes as several Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives have been courting flak for not being able to attend the gathering. Some have cited work engagements as their reason.

To be held outside the Sogo Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur from 4pm to midnight, the rally is also to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
