The next of kin of those on board missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 have launched a petition to ensure the search for the plane continues, in conjunction with the first anniversary of the incident.

The petition appeals to the governments of Malaysia, China, Australia, USA as well as commercial entities including Boeing and Airbus to continue the search.

The launch was held at the Publika shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur today, attended by Malaysian and Chinese next of kin of those on board the plane.

Video messages from the next of kin from abroad were also played at the event, while balloons with scriblings by the next of kin were also released.

However, one next of kin, Jacquita Gomez, told reporters that the petition was unnecessary.

"Whether there is a petition or not, they should continue the search. You don't need a petition, because the (Malaysian) government promised (to find the plane) and we hold them to that promise," Jacquita Gomez.

No meeting with Liow

Jacquita's husbard Patrick Gomez was a steward on board MH370.

Several next of kin were still unable accept that those on board the plane have perished.

"I still believe my son is alive... They are all alive, none of them have died, because there is no proof," said Kamariah Sharif, who is the mother of passenger Mohd Razahan Zamani.

Also at the event were DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang, Lim Lip Eng and Teresa Kok.

One next of kin from China approached Kit Siang and related how relatives from China had failed to secure a meeting with Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.

"Parliament is convening (tomorrow) so Lip Eng can act on their behalf to hand their letter to the minister concerned," he said.
