MCA wants police to probe a Twitter user urging war between Malays and Chinese, and to check if the individual has links to militant group Islamic State.

 

The user, among others, said that the Malays should “rise to battle” the Chinese and that it is ‘halal’ (permissible in Islam) to spill Chinese blood.

 

MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker said the Twitter user should be arrested immediately and investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, and Sections 503 and 504 of the Penal Code.

 

This is because the urgings by the user, who uses the Twitter handle @WanKhairulIV, are a clear threat to national security, he said.

 

“With so many fears about the threat of the IS lurking amongst us and recruiting Malaysians, one cannot help but link his Twitter postings with images of IS’ evils of blood, torture and gore.

 

“Hence, the account holder should be detained to ascertain if he is indeed an IS or Al-Qaeda operative or sympathiser,” Ti said in a statement yesterday.

 

Sections 503 and 504 of the Penal Code deals with “criminal intimidation” and “intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace” respectively.

 

If the Prevention of Terrorism Act has also been enacted, it should be used against @WanKhairulIV as well, Ti said.

 

Contentious postings

 

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar earlier tweeted that his officers are already investigating the user @WanKhairulIV for the tweets.

 

Most of the contentious postings were made in early February.

 

“All Chinese who hold datukships must return it to the sultans who are Malay. Start May 13 against the Chinese. Allahuakbar!” he tweeted on Feb 4.

 

Another posting that calls for Malays to rise against the Chinese is accompanied by a photo of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob supporters holding up ‘ We are all Ismail Sabri ’ placards.

 

The minister was at the time criticised over a Facebook posting where he called for a boycott on Chinese-owned businesses in order to compel them to lower prices.

 

He later claimed that he was referring to “ stubborn traders ” regardless of race.
