Shafee’s token fee points to political conspiracy
YOURSAY ‘He must have reasons for charging a token sum to take Anwar down.’
Gov't paid Shafee RM1,000 to prosecute Anwar
FairMind: Those who know how lawyers charge for a court case will know how ridiculously impossible it is for a lawyer to charge RM1,000 in legal fees for this kind of litigation.
The legal fee for a simple conveyance would exceed RM1,000. This brings to mind that a hefty sum has to be paid in kind.
Perhaps a lucrative contract, or the attorney-general’s post, or a directorship in a government-linked company in the future? If not, did Muhammad Shafee Abdullah do it as a grudge against Anwar?
Longyan: Excellent. Our government can now out-source all court cases to private legal practitioners.
We can then reduce the Attorney-General’s Chambers and prosecution department to mere administrative offices and all our deputy public prosecutors (DPPs) can spend their time shaking legs in their air-conditioned offices. We will save millions of ringgit every year.
Gggg: That cheap? I think the government can save millions by assigning all cases currently handled by the AG to Shafee. Thank you, Shafee, for helping to save taxpayers’ money.
Kangkung: De facto law minister Nancy Shukri, it is better to say Shafee did it for Umno free of charge - out of his sheer generosity.
Wg321: Do you expect Shafee to give the Umno government a free lunch?
On one hand, he may be paid only RM1,000 to serve as lead prosecutor but on the other hand, he could get a multi-million contract or appointed to a very high government post.
If you are on the right side of the fence, you will be richly rewarded with contracts and projects; and you will not be prosecuted if you have committed an offence.
Over50ABU: Why the government would want to waste public funds to battle against an individual if it is not politically motivated?
Gaji Buta: “The reason a private lawyer was hired was to avoid this kind of slander (tomahan),” said Nancy.
So this statement is supposed to explain why you hired one of the lawyers most strongly linked with Umno? Oops... sorry, you were only reading what you were told.
Sinan Belawan: Nancy, it’s shocking that an MP is stating that the government cannot disclose what it pays its consultants with taxpayers’ money on the basis of "the professional relationship between the client (government) and counsel (Shafee)."
So all those talk by BN leaders on transparency and signing integrity pledges were lies to mislead Malaysians? So whatever the government pays to consultants is under the Official Secrets Act?
Misleading and lying to the public is abuse of power.
SultanMydin: His immense sacrifice for the party and government by willingly accepting a token sum of RM1,000, must be amply rewarded by other ways.
After all, he single-handedly killed off the opposition leader's career. Looking forward to be made the next chief justice and with it, comes the Tunship?
Idon'tlikekangkung: Well, I suppose all Shafee had to do was just sing and dance. There was really no trial anyway. It was all a foregone conclusion, so that is why he came so cheap.
How Sad: Indeed, I am surprised that we taxpayers are expected to pay even RM1,000 considering that in reality, no legal prowess was required and none was shown.
Roy69: Fellow Malaysians, please don’t insult Nancy. Don’t you all know we live in a democracy?
Malaysia is a secular nation where the rights of every Malaysian are protected under the federal constitution by our independent judiciary.
We are protected by a world-class police, our education system is par excellence, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is so good that even the PM is afraid of them, our strong currency and stable economy is the envy of the first world, our military frightens the terrorists, and our diplomats are seen in awe. Come on, Malaysia.
FairMind: RM1,000 is even cheaper than the cost of a hairdo for some people. Maybe he is doing it pro bono because he gets a kick out of doing a perverted sex roadshow, and talking about “nipple pinching”.
Avatar 111: Now we know why Shafee was doing the job for a token fee. He must be coming in to settle a personal score or acting on some other person(s)'s agenda or vendetta to finish off Anwar.
Ckl0001: Why so little for Umno's best lawyer? What was Shafee's motivation to act for Umno, Nancy? Come on, Nancy, tell us more since you already opened your mouth.
Fair&Just: Yes, correct. Eric Chia also said he worked for free in Perwaja Steel. Bless his soul.
Anonymous #21828131: It goes to show that when a person harbours vengeance, even next to free service would do.
My recent sales and purchase (S&P) agreement for the purchase of a house was more than RM7,000. Now you can see why Anwar fought hard to remove this prosecutor.
Clearwater: Indeed, even an ordinary taxpayer can afford RM1,000 legal fees. That’s less than a hairdo. What do I need to do to hire him?
