Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had sought the help of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to solve the stalemate between the state government and the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry regarding the lapsed Selangor water deal.

"I met the prime minister at the sidelines of the conference of rulers this morning, and briefly I communicated to him my concerns in finding a solution soon as possible," Azmin told reporters in Parliament today.

Azmin's administration chose not to extend the water deal with the federal government earlier this week, after claiming that the federal government's demands for land went against the spirit of the master agreement signed last September.

Both Azmin and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili ( right ) blamed each other for the stalemate, but both had expressed a desire to keep the doors open for a new round of negotiations.

"The PM has assured me that he will speak to the minister on the matter. I told him that anything we do must be in keeping with the spirit of the master agreement," Azmin said.

Azmin then said that he hoped to meet the minister again next week to discuss the way forward to find a solution to the matter.
