DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang believes parties like PAS, MCA and Gerakan are falling for the cleverly devised trap by Umno in the form of ‘unity government' to divide the opposition bloc as well as deceiving its own allies.

This comes after PAS Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah announced that PAS will table the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Bill at the state assembly this Wednesday without any amendments despite DAP opposing the move.

“This will be a great pity, for it will mark the triumph of Umno conspirators who have been trying their utmost in the past seven years to use the bait of the unity government, and in the past year the additional bait of hudud implementation in Kelantan to achieve their objective,"  Lim said in a statement today.

He warned BN components MCA and Gerakan that they were being fooled by Umno into believing that their views matter when the ruling party is willing to make a pact with PAS, which is seen as long time rival by BN.

“If MCA and Gerakan can open the breach to agree to Umno Kelantan state assemblymen supporting PAS on hudud implementation in Kelantan, aren’t they setting a precedent to future agreement to Umno state assemblymen in other states agreeing to hudud implementation, and even finally, agreeing to Umno MPs supporting hudud implementation in Parliament?,” the Gelang Patah MP quizzed.

Lim also said the death of PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is being exploited by Umno in their renewed unity ploy.

“The unity government plotters (initially) found the obstacles quite impregnable, especially in the steely, principled and consistent opposition of the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

"The death of Nik Aziz on Feb 12 was a great and new opportunity for the unity government plotters,” Lim said.

It is reported that the Kelantan state government reportedly plans to table amendments to the Syariah bill on March 18 at the state assembly.

The bill is rumoured to be followed by PAS possibly tabling a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to push for hudud implementation in Kelantan.
