YOURSAY ‘PAS is good at scoring own goals. Umno knows how to capitalise on it.’

Poll: 81pct Malays want flood priority over hudud

Ferdtan: A timely survey by pollster Merdeka Centre which stated that 81 percent of Malay-Muslim respondents want the PAS state government to prioritise the state’s flood problems instead of implementing hudud laws.

This clearly shows that the Kelantan PAS government controlled by ulama is out of touch with the people of not only in Kelantan but the whole country.

This should be pointedly alarming to PAS as the 81 percent respondents are Muslims. That is why we always say religious men (of all religions) should be best left in their prayer houses instead of indulging in secular politics where they have no clue at all.

RatBatBlue: The Kelantanese people are very practical minded. The foremost thing in their minds is how to recover from the ravages of the floods. Many have lost almost everything in this disaster.

It is rather out of place for the PAS government to push for hudud so soon, when there are so many other things which need immediate attention.

They (rakyat of Kelantan) will definitely realise that this government was only interested in "godly" issues, with important recovery plans being relegated. This may be costly for PAS come the 14th general election (GE14).

Perhaps that's why there has been factional infighting between the clerics and the progressives in that party, as the latter can read the writing on the wall - PAS will be history, even in Kelantan, in the next GE.

As it is, the Selangor MB issue did enough damage. They received a lot of support from non-Muslims in constituencies where there were no DAP/PKR candidates in GE13, and now cannot hope for this anymore due to their flip-flopping attitude.

Ramakrishnan: PAS is always good at scoring own goals. Umno knows how to capitalise on it. The hardliners’ brains are frozen, programmed and cannot be changed.

Meow: Inability to prioritise the need of ordinary people has been a major weakness among Muslim-majority countries.

These people are more concerned about after-death, and they include PAS leaders. The PAS emphasis needs to change, especially to win non-Muslims’ confidence.

Anonymous_1419577444: Well, Kelantan PAS will say that they are implementing the Almighty's will, which is much more important than winning elections.

They failed to realise that if they lose the next election, this law will be put on the shelf again and PAS is then back to square one.

They would also say that these 81 percent Malay-Muslims should be reprimanded for not following their teaching of Islam.

Victor Johan: Perhaps PAS as a political party should start asking this: When PAS (it's no longer 'if') loses Kelantan at the next GE14, and with Umno winning, will this 'revised Islamic enactment' becoming a reality?

Surely Umno is going to kick it out as soon as they reign in Kelantan again after having lost the state since 1990.

Wira: The non-Muslims are always wary that PAS is for the implementation of hudud. As least PAS has remained steadfast to their principles, not like Umno which will bend to introduce, or corrupt, any law to remain in power.

My wish is for PAS to study the Merdeka Center poll results with wisdom. One wrong move and you may lose the only state you have ruled for decades to the Satan you so often condemn.

FairMind: I doubt whether the conservative ulama faction understand these statistics. They will say that God's wishes are more supreme than the peoples' wishes.

Whether they understand or not, it is clear that the people of Kelantan, which are predominantly Malays, are not in sync with PAS and do not want hudud. If Kelantan, the fortress of PAS, do not support hudud, one can be certain that the rest of the country do not either.

With this result of the survey, it is now abundantly clear that PAS has been trapped by Umno well and good. Even the Malays will be deserting PAS, let alone the Chinese and Indians.

Now will be a good time for the progressives in PAS to take over the leadership of PAS or break away. If not, they will sink along with the old ship. The same thing goes with DAP and PKR - ditch PAS before it is too late,

Iiiizzzziiii: Humans who think they are wearing God clothing and speaking God language, presume to know and understand God. We are all God’s creations and if these groups of people do not understand people from different beliefs and faiths, then how well do they understand God?

If they do not understand others how are they going to speak God language to the people in the manner they can accept and relate to their lives?

Using coercion to convert or force God teachings on to others indicate a desire to impose human acceptance, but is this what God truly wants?

Or this is a reflection of those groups of people who embrace the use of force and trickery to achieve their desire. Can these people be seen as servants of God?

Hero325: PAS is past, no need to cry over spilled milk. PAS is a party that feeds on human votes but serves the purpose of God.

Jiminy Qrikert: Kelantan Malays are abandoning PAS. DAP and PKR supporters have rejected PAS. Moderate Malays throughout Malaysia are rejecting PAS.

Umno has PAS well and truly trapped and checkmated. PAS is now totally irrelevant to Malaysians. PAS chief Abdul Hadi Awang has indeed schemed himself into oblivion.
