YOURSAY 'So punish the poor Malay-Muslim, but not the rich...'
Umno MPs at odds over hudud bill
Anonymous#007 : Kemaman MP Ahmad Shabery Cheek said, "Umno cannot be seen as opposing anything that is demanded by Islam and we have always had this stand."
Really, Shabery?
Where was the demand for severe punishment for national bowler Noor Afizal Azizan who was found guilty of sexual intercourse with an underaged girl? Where were PAS, Jakim, Jais, Ikim, Perkasa and Isma to protest against Azlan being let off?
But the mudslinging aside, what is more important is for Parliament to decide if it should even accept any law for debate which had been pushed through by means of deceit and lies, and without proper debate through the democratic channel?
What message would this send to the younger generation?
Casey919: Hudud is just a convenient tool like the Sedition Act. It is also a political tool to regain lost votes. They were never meant to be a vehicle to improve humanity or the progress of the people.
It can only create 'fear' and 'suspicion' among fellow man. It is easy to pass the enactment but impossible to enforce properly without many folds of enforcement officers. At the end of the day, it looks like we'd rather spend money to regress than to progress.
This is the result of 'greed' in man; they would do anything to win lost votes.
Anonymous #20513663 : Once again, PAS has been cheated by Umno. Either that or Umno has infiltrated PAS and accomplished 'Operation Trojan Horse'.
Not only that, opinion polls have shown that hudud is not a priority for voters. PAS has been played out in every possible way.
Goldee: How could it be God's law when the punishment is so extreme and cruel in nature? To my knowledge and understanding, God is kind, forgiving and compassionate. He always gives the offender a chance to repent.
Hudud law says if one is caught for stealing, his/her hand will be chopped off. If so, he/she is not given a chance to repent and turn over a new leaf. I doubt God works that way.
Senior: My views are:
1) We are a secular state and should not have religious laws.
2) Hudud is unconstitutional.
3) It is barbaric and suited to a bygone era.
4) It is not demanded or even required by the religion (only recommended).
5) Instead of going forward, we are going backward, and no international parties will come here to do business with such laws.
Anonymous#007: Religious issues should be debated by full-time and experienced religious experts, not politicians.
Parliament should endorse the interfaith council - made up of representatives of all religions in this country - as the main platform to debate and discuss any religious issues.
There are many more urgent things for Parliament to debate, like the alleged mismanagement of funds (and possibly corruption) at 1MDB, KWSP, KWAP, the rising cost of living, entrenched poverty, top students not getting their chosen course at local universities, etc.
The haphazard Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation is a clear example of what happens when there is no proper and intellectual debate in Parliament.
But, GST does not involve empowering a person to take the life of or maim another human being. It would be a sin to give liars, deceivers and racists such power.
Anonymous_137147888888: There is no punishment for corruption under hudud. Meaning, punish the poor and average Malay-Muslim, but not the rich Malay-Muslim.
Anonymous #20513663: Peninsular Malaysian voters have spoken in the Merdeka Center poll on hudud. This is all just a political sandiwara with the goal of breaking up Pakatan Rakyat.
It looks like it's working. Again, ‘padan muka’ PAS.
'PAS won't get Dewan's support for hudud'
RR: As a mark of respect to the silent majority in the country, all MPs from component parties of BN and Pakatan should abstain from voting for the hudud bill in Parliament. Expect many PAS and Umno MPs, who have no conscience and principles, to vote for the bill.
This bill will ultimately affect the liberty of the younger generation of Malays. Leaders in Arab countries practising hudud laws are finding it very difficult to revert to civil laws for fear of retaliation from the fanatics. We pray sanity will prevail in Malaysia.
Onepen: He who is not without all these weaknesses, let him cast the first stone or cut the first limb or strike the first stroke. We know PAS leaders have all the qualities that make them the perfect human beings.
SusahKes: There is only one word to describe PAS' behaviour - betrayal. They have stooped to a low that I would not even ascribe to Umno.
The reason being, is that with Umno, we always knew what to expect. There were hardly any surprises whenever Umno manoeuvres.
But PAS - that's a total about-turn from their electoral promises. From being a champion of truth, justice and equity, the party has become so tunnel visioned and narrow minded that it has but alienated all the goodwill that was hard fought and gained in the past six, seven years.
