The father of BFM business radio station presenter Aisyah Tajuddin who has come under fire for its satire on Kelantan’s hudud implementation, said his daughter is being wrongly prosecuted.

Inspector general of police Khalid Abu Bakar this morning said police reports have been lodged against her and she will be probed for insulting a religion.

Aisyah’s father, Mohamad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi ( left ), said the video was not about questioning religion but rather the interpretation of hudud by PAS.

“It is strange to me when they say she is being investigated for blasphemy. Questioning a political party (PAS) idea of hudud, I don’t think is blasphemous,” he told reporters today morning when met at the Future of Religious Freedom Forum today.

He added the police probe on his daughter and BFM also reeked of “political malice”.

“I think she is a victim caught in a crossfire. She is not taking sides, she is just a presenter.

The video was just satire, It’s no different from Lat doing a cartoon on the prime minister,” said Tajuddin.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old former professor added he was more afraid of the “over-anxious” police rather than the threats of rape and murder made by those on the Internet.

“If the threats from people like Perkasa or Isma, I think we should be careful. But if it came from young teenagers, I don’t think there is much to it. If they catch these people, I will not press charges. It’s enough they apologise to my daughter.

“The one thing I’m afraid is of the police who are over-anxious and over-excited to do their job,” Tajuddin said.

While being thankful to BFM for sticking by Aisyah, Tajuddin also felt it would be better for her to take a sabbatical to pursue her masters.

“I think this incident is a ‘wake up call’ for Aisyah to go and further improve her knowledge,” he added.
