And now, audit firm snared by 1MDB scandal

YOURSAY ‘KPMG has no choice but to come clean on the 1MDB revelation.’

KPMG failed M'sians on 1MDB, says Pua

Ferdtan: The rot has now affected even the supposedly professional auditing firm, KPMG, another first.

I have been dealing with the firm in my working days for many years and this is really sad to find out that they have allegedly sold their integrity for a few pieces of gold.

If KPMG still thinks that they are not guilty then they should sue MP Tony Pua or the people behind the Sarawak Report . If not, the principal office (head office) of KPMG should sack all the partners involved to salvage their good name.

That being said, it is still difficult to trust again the professionalism of the supposedly independent accounting firm. The smell will linger.

Anonymous_4196: Indeed, KPMG should come clean and issue a press statement if it felt that evidence from Sarawak Report against them is questionable.

The nation is watching. 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) monster debt and questionable transfer of funds cannot and should not be swept under the carpet.

GMK: In life, many things are done on "get on board then buy the ticket" basis. The same goes for audit industries.

It is a common practice when an audit hit a hard but grey issue, the signing auditors will be consulted and the client will ask how can “you assist us so that you can sign an unqualified report”.

The signing auditors will then tell the client exactly what they expect before they can ink their signature. Clearly in this case, the signing auditor has compromised in some ways, while not illegal but surely morally wrong.

But what option the auditor has when facing with this dilemma? Resigning would mean he has to provide a reason why he quit half way through the audit.

That would expose the whole scam, if any. So expect the auditor to compromise and think of a way out.

Viviyan Jack: As long as it can benefit 1MDB, I don't see anything is at fault.

Especially since the investment can return a profit and boosts our economy in the future. So stop talking nonsense about 1MDB.

AeGan King: Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, you have always mentioned the negative impacts if 1MDB fails.

But what are the positive impacts if 1MDB succeeds and successfully restructures the IPP (independent power producer) industry in Malaysia and becomes the number one IPP player?

And what if the ambitious projects of Bandar Malaysia and Tun Razak Exchange succeed?

Wg321: There is no need for all these Umno cybertroopers to defend audit firm KPMG. KPMG is not Najib.

Pua made a very serious allegation against KPMG. KPMG has the right to reply. I am very eager to hear KPMG’s side of the story.

I remember the story of Enron and Arthur Andersen vividly. I hope KPMG is not in the same league as Arthur Andersen.

By just keeping quiet like Najib, KPMG will do a lot of harm its international reputation.

SRMan: Arthur Andersen was one of the ‘Big Five’ accounting firms. Due to its mishandling of Enron, it was brought down in 2002 resulting in the current ‘Big Four’, including KPMG.

KPMG has no choice but to come clean on the above revelation.

KB Menon: Umno Baru cybertroopers are out in force again as usual whenever 1MDB issue is raised.

Instead of attacking Pua, why don't you counter with sane and intelligent arguments. You are not even qualified to stand in his shadow as far as intelligence is concerned.

Blobfishface: The more BN cybertroopers attempt to defend the indefensible, the more certain the rest of us feel that this great-grandmother of all financial scams will be the ruin of the ringgit.

Sinan Belawan: KPMG Malaysia partners are members of Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M). Together with Paul Low, the integrity minister, KPMG partners had served in the Board of TI-M.

KPMG promoted Integrity Pacts of TI. Can TI-M, as an NGO promoting integrity and accountability, take on the responsibility of facilitating a response from its KPGM partners on the allegations that KPMG has failed Malaysians on 1MDB.

Mushiro: If this was true, KPMG has to be punished for joining the thieves and protecting them at the expense of Malaysians.

KPMG has no option but to sue Sarawak Report or admit their blunder.

Dr Anonymous_Ingrates: USD1 = RM3.711 now. Let’s wait until 1MDB bring us down to USD1 = RM4.00.
