De facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri today reiterated the stand taken by Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz who said it was ridiculous to implement hudud in the country.

Nazri ( right ) was yesterday reported saying that hudud will not happen in the country and it was pointless to have discussions on it

“I am in agreement with Nazri. It is just not possible to implement hudud. It’s not easy for hudud to pass through,” she told reporters today at the Parliament lobby.

She added people might also be at the risk of ‘double jeopardy’ of being prosecuted under hudud and the civil laws.

“We have the federal constitution, we have to look at the offences under hudud as there might be double jeopardy.

“A lot of provisions are already under the federal constitution, there needs to be a restudy (of the laws) if hudud was allowed to pass,” she added.

While not being able to make a stand for BN as a whole on hudud, speaking on behalf of Sarawakians Nancy stated that hudud would not be well-received in the Borneo state.

“I don’t think you would get the vote in Sarawak for hudud,”she curtly said before entering the Dewan Rakyat.
