DAP sends signal to party’s grassroots

YOURSAY ‘If it thinks hudud is a must, then Pakatan has to look elsewhere.’

DAP's gambit may give Hadi upper hand

SusahKes: There really is no further need for evidence in so far as the majority of electorate, who voted for Pakatan Rakyat and PAS, is concerned. There has been enough to deduce from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's response, attitude and behaviour, that he has gone rogue on Pakatan.

From the time of the GE13 where he approved candidates to take on PKR's, when he refused to endorse Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Selangor MB, and right up to this moment where he refused to adhere to the Pakatan Council decision - that any proposal to table hudud must first be submitted to it - these show the man has gone rogue against Pakatan’s original ideals and principles.

Whether PAS members are convinced is not nearly as important as convincing the electorate that voted for PAS. They are the ones who need to be convinced that PAS is still worthy of their trust.

Otherwise, come next GE, PAS and its members can enjoy their own company with one another at the ‘warung’ and ‘pondok’. They will be voted out.

Voice: Treat this action to censure Hadi as a wake-up call for PAS. The whole problem is with PAS, which tried to implement hudud against the spirit of cooperation, mutual understanding and struggle of the Pakatan coalition.

If PAS is arrogantly protecting and supporting their leader Hadi and continue to attempt the implementation of hudud, the next time round, PAS has to do it outside Pakatan or else don't blame DAP for pulling out from Pakatan to form a new coalition.

Multi Racial: Whichever way, Hadi cannot be trusted. Any party associated with Hadi is likely to lose votes.

PAS will certainly lose a lot of votes if Hadi remains as president. The only way for PAS to get a second chance is to vote a moderate to lead PAS and correct Hadi’s wrongdoings.

Desperate for Change: I am one who supported PAS in the past election. As a voter, I am against hudud. It is simple.

If PAS wants to survive in the next election, they will now have to depend on Malay voters who support hudud. They can forget about non-Malay votes.

The Analyser: It beats me why anyone would think there is a democratic future in association with any form of PAS.

With or without Hadi, with or without PasMa or the Erdogans, Islam is not remotely interested in democracy. Democracy requires that the people tell the administration what to do. Islam insists it’s a way of life with the right to tell its adherents what to do.

I strongly suspect this frantic grasping for PAS support of (the already dead, but won't lie down) Pakatan is nothing more than another example of the Chinese being incapable of doing anything for themselves. DAP wants everything done their way... by somebody else.

Kilgore: The coalition is unworkable if Hadi insists on veto power over council decisions. The DAP is making that clear to PAS members for their consideration before the leadership election.

It is up to PAS now to decide if they want move forward as partners, or go it alone.

TehTarik: Ultimately PAS will merge with Umno to form a pan-Malay party. This will be a formidable merger and will have a good chance of winning the next election.

DAP’s ploy to attack Hadi and PAS has backfired. It appears that Umno’s strategy is winning hands down compared to DAP’s.

Sb Nap: Hadi will definitely win, given that he has the support of Umno. He does not need to give a damn about Pakatan.

That is the precise reason why he was absent from the Pakatan leadership meeting. With Umno behind him, he has become untouchable in PAS.

Anonymous #20513663: Yes, just like in BN, “it's complicated” but they will do whatever it takes to stay in power. One plays good cop, another plays bad cop, divide and rule the people of Malaysia for 60 years, and laugh all the way to the bank.

The media is being stupid too. How come nobody is asking MCA to leave BN if they are so against hudud? How come nobody is asking Umno to split into two - Umno and Umno-Ma if they cannot agree on hudud?

No, everyone is focusing on the Pakatan ‘sandiwara’ created by Umno's Trojan horses. So: BN - 1, Pakatan - 0. Next time, be a bit smarter. We have the government we deserve.

Bamboo: Despite Hadi’s unIslamic betrayal of PKR and DAP, if PAS still retains Hadi as its president, then Pakatan is better off without PAS.

If PAS grassroots think that hudud is a must, then Pakatan has to look elsewhere for partners to form an alternative government as this single-mindedness would only take our country backwards.

Prudent: DAP's decision to shun Hadi and his faction is first to protect DAP's own grassroots support - the Chinese, Indians, Sabahans, Sarawakians and the Malays who do not support hudud. I don't think that its main intention is to send a signal the PAS grassroots.

Ferdtan: If PAS grassroots members cannot read the political scenario, then the party deserves to be out of Pakatan. Let it be, even if Hadi is retained.

Then at least we see the end of PAS as a national party as non-Malays will never vote for them again. Which is worse? Hudud or BN retained as federal government?

The choice is simple.
