The Kita Lawan rally in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon will proceed as planned, despite the govenrment's efforts to halt it, said the organisers.

The Kita Lawan secretariat said the people are forced to rally because Prime Minister Najib Razak has failed to take care of the citizens.

"That is why we as Malaysians have to do something about it.

"Najib Razak will not champion the issues of the citizens.

"We are forced to bear the responsibility to fight against (injustices like) the Goods and Services Tax (GST)," lamented the secretariat in a statement today.

"Let's not be shaken by their provocation and intimidation," it said.

The rally is to kick off at 4pm at the three gathering points Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka and PAS headquarters and to march to Sogo shopping centre.

Kita Lawan was formed to pressure for the release of jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, but has since embraced other issues such as the impending GST that will take effect on April 1.

In the lead up to the rally a number of individuals have been arrested, including activist Hishamuddin Rais , PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli and PAS deputy chief Mohamed Sabu , the latest to be rounded up last night.

In the latest development, both Rafizi and Hishamuddin have been remanded for three days, while Batu MP Tian Chua today joins the growing list of those arrested.

The secretariat expressed disappointment with Najib for the crackdown on dissent that has seen scores of activists and opposition leaders arrested.

"Najib should really feel remorse with the actions of the police who have detained the people's ledaers and young activists.

"But the IGP's strategy had failed to stop the advance of the young towards Sogo today, and instead has only helped us get more Malaysians to join our rally today," they said, calling for the IGP to be sacked for ruining the good name of the police force with the arrests to date.
