PAS Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad who was arrested in the wee hours today over his participation in the Kita Lawan rally has been freed.

His lawyer Michelle Yesudas said two students picked up at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre park last night have also been released.

However, Kita Lawan coordinator Fariz Musa, who was the first to be detained after the peaceful dispersal of the rally yesterday evening will be freed tomorrow morning.

Yesudas told Malaysiakini police failed to obtain a remand order due to an error in the investigation papers

"The bizarre thing was the investigation papers were not complete, so they had to release him as there was a procedural error," she said.

Those arrested yesterday are being investigated under Section 143 of the Penal Code.

PKR's Batu MP Tian Chua was also released by police today after posting bail, she added.

Chua was also arrested in relation to the rally, alongside PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, and activist Hishamuddin Rais.

Rafizi and Hishamuddin are being remanded for three days.

 

Meanwhile, PAS deputy chief Mohamed Sabu said he was not remanded but released on police bail.

 

He added that he was investigated for participating in an illegal assembly similar to the other opposition leaders above who.

Mohamed, better know as Mat Sabu, was arrested on Friday ahead of his alleged involvement in the Kita Lawan rally on Saturday.

He was nabbed by police believed to be from Bukit Aman's Pasukan Petugas Khas Jenayah Terancang (STAFOC) around midnight in Seberang Jaya, Penang.
