Pakatan Rakyat's motion to censure Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar has been rejected by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

PKR's Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said he received a reply from the speaker stating that the IGP was acting within his powers and hence there was no urgency to pursue the motion.  

The reply from Pandikar read: "I have studied the issue brought up by Yang Berhormat and have found that the actions taken by IGP is in his jurisdiction of powers handed to him under the existing laws for national security and public order. By such, there is no urgency to this matter." 

Sim said the reply displayed a "worrying trend" that important motions are not taken seriously.

"I sent the motion on March 25 but things became worse after I sent it.

"Now we have to file another motion to discuss the motion that has been rejected," he said referring to the spate of arrests last week, which involved opposition leaders as well.

The opposition bloc was seeking to censure the IGP for arresting PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah over a speech made in the August house.
