Some 20 demonstrators gathered near the Malaysiakini office in Petaling Jaya today calling for the portal to be shut down.

The group, from Gabungan Melayu Bersatu Demi Islam, accused the website of spinning news, dividing Malaysians, and confusing youths.

" Malaysiakini likes to spin stories. We don't want this to cause racial tension. We urge Malaysiakini to stop being a political organ.

"We want the authorities to take stern action... so that Malaysiakini will be shut down," said the group's chairperson Ariffin Abu Bakar.

"Most of the stories we read, it confuses the youths, like on GST (Goods and Services Tax)," he said when asked by reporters to clarify which Malaysiakini articles were misleading.

Ariffin said the group will also lodge a police report against Malaysiakini soon, but refused to say on what matter.

"We are still looking into it," he said.

The protest lasted for about 10 minutes, with them holding up signs including ' Malaysiakini causing racial tensions', ' Malaysiakini stop spinning', and "U're a disgrace".

They also chanted 'Tutup Malaysiakini ' (Shut down Malaysiakini ).

They ended their protest by voicing their support for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The group had earlier staged a similiar protest at The Malaysian Insider office in Petaling Jaya over a report on the Conference of Rulers and hudud.
