The Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) today joined the bandwagon of those defending Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak against attacks by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Instead of an "unwarranted outburts" against Najib through his blog on issues like the goods and services tax and 1Malaysia Development Bhd, MAICCI said Mahathir should look in the mirror.

"Mahathir should stop discrediting the PM but first look at his own weaknesses during his administration," Maicci secretary-general M Davendran said in a statement.

He said Mahathir managed to administer the country without undue attacks from his predecessors and should support Najib in the same way.

Mahathir has done a lot for Malaysia, Davendran said, but it is best he "think good, do good and say good, and repent for (his) wrongdoings during his tenure".

"Please keep in mind that being an elder statesman whatever you say will be deemed as gospel truth and whatever negative you say may do more harm than good for the country," he said.
