YOURSAY ‘Is it a case of do what I tell you to do, but don't do what I do?’
Anonymous #20513663: Sadly, clueless international media outfits will likely carry a story with the following headline, ‘Malaysia takes terrorist threat very seriously’.
“There are many graduate bombmakers without morals in Malaysia, that is why Putrajaya had to pass the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) even though the poor BN MPs were in Parliament till the wee hours.
“The opposition Pakatan Rakyat tried to block the bill but thankfully they were unsuccessful. According to a source close to the inspector-general of police (IGP), the opposition is actually close to terrorists, as we can see from the fact that the opposition is trying to introduce a hudud bill, which shows that Pakatan are all radical Muslim militants. Analysts say Malaysia will only be stable if BN governs forever.”
I exaggerate only slightly. Check BBC, CNN, Fox, The Economist and see what they are saying. But bear in mind that this is only happening because Malaysians are not speaking up to tell their side of the story.
CQ Muar: Look who's talking about morality. Is this is spoken to hide one's guilt? Incidentally, do the following come under immorality, e.g. luxuriating at the expense of taxpayers and the poor, corruption, murder occurring in the country, twisting and telling lies, reneging on one's promises, arresting and nabbing those who do not speak well of the government and leader, granting to family members and cronies wealth and high-end contracts, etc?
Example is better than precept, so please lead by example. Or, is it a case of do what I tell you to do, but don't do what I do?
Mohgui: Najib Abdul Razak is trying to score some brownie points but failed miserably at it. He thinks that by giving all these positive speeches, the rakyat will forget about the many questions raised by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Analyser: The ‘positive values’ Najib is talking about are learned by association in the home. Morals lectures and holy books have very little impact. You only have to look at the offspring of Malaysia's top politicians to see where the facts lie.
The reality is that it's more likely that the bombs will be made by ignorant fundamentalist jihadists. And we all know where they got their education.
StopMonkeying: What are positive values according to Naj? Are rampant corruption, stealing, plundering, cheating and telling lies positive values?
Sirach: Spare us, Mr PM. You are not a role model of probity to be lecturing anyone on moral values. Your lavish ways and opacity with public funds make you if anything an object lesson on what not do to when holding high office, especially an elected one.
Bringon14: I absolutely agree with the PM on this - that graduates without morals (and for that matter non-graduates without morals) are a scourge on society. The problem is that the current government is full of them (both grads and non-grads).
Does he not recall how his coalition allegedly bribed the people to vote for them? This government has a huge franchise on dishonesty and amoral (and as well as immoral) behaviour.
Kang Kong King: Graduates with no morals can turn into villains, so do those elected to be PM or ministers.
If they are students with no morals they can make bombs. What about those elected to be PM or appointed as ministers? Need to quote examples? No need, as everyone with a little bit of grey matter would have seen those examples.
Gordon Gecko: Najib's message is written by his professional speech writers. He just reads out whatever is written. The ‘moral’ part in the speech is not his personal thoughts or values - that is for sure.
ONG: The PM said, "If they are clever but don't possess morals, they can use their intelligence to destroy this country."
He does not know that such destruction has started long ago and is ongoing. First, they use race and religion to put themselves on a pedestal.
After they have raised themselves on the pedestal, to become a superior class of beings, they use their exalted position to claim special blah, blah, blah.
Louis: The world must have turned upside down. Najib is preaching morals? I almost fell off my chair when I read it.
Swipenter: What grounds does Najib have to preach about morality? Just look how many election promises have been broken by him?
See how corruption has taken on a monstrous speed, level and size under him. Look at the many scandals happening under his administration. Even the "bravery" of IS (Islamic State) was allegedly praised.
Tikusmati: A person with no morals should not preach on morals. A person who does not use his brains for the benefit of the rakyat and nation, and thinks of self-interest cannot be considered as moral.
A person who does not speak to the rakyat on issues that concern the rakyat and the nation cannot be considered as moral. A person who does not condemn and take action against the real racists in the country cannot be considered as moral.
Anonymous #59879079: What about a person whose father has sent him to the best school and university and also prepared him for a life in politics? Without morals, this can also go wrong.
Anonymous_1419577444: Likewise, Malaysian leaders need to be taught good moral values so that they do not treat the country's assets and rakyat's monies that they are entrusted with as their own piggy bank.
From Penang: If the government had practiced fairness in education for all Malaysian, today Malaysia would be proud of James Wan, the director of the US box office hit ‘Fast & Furious 7' who was born in Kuching, Sarawak.
Unfortunately, the guy is now known as an Australian director.
